· There was no ventilation! Air conditioning would shut off after an hour! There were Nat's in the room! Pubic hairs around the tub drain.! The first night somebody played music for about four hours. Second night Fire alarm went off twice. Both us contracted a sinus infection.
Detroit has suffered a lot in the past years with economical recession, but still people are friendly. Sometimes it can be dangerous and, at night, it seems that the city has no life as there aren't many people walking on the streets (except on specific areas of the city). There are excelent choices of restaurants, but hotels are overpriced for the city.
Was there to visit family. All our outings which were restaurant and shopping were very nice 👍 Two reasonably priced breakfast place were Brooklyn Diner and Honest John's. Yemini restaurant was great and simple for Middle East food.
The thing Detroit is lacking, is everything. There was absolutely nothing opened at 11 on a Thursday night. It was a ghost town. After concerts people want to eat, and there was not ONE place to eat. Restaurants stay open later in the suburbs than they do the city. There’s really nothing to do. Pan handlers everywhere. Not even a store was open. Unless you are right in Greek town, don’t bother because ui I won’t find anything open.
Detroit is my hometown, so I am prejudiced to say the least. I left Detroit in 1969 with my husband and kids due my husband's job. Since then, I have been back about every 3-4 years and there are always signs of Detroit "coming back". Downtown is bustling, restaurants are amazing, and WSU medical and regular campuses are making the Cass Corridor nationally known. Had Detroit-style pizza at Buddy's, Vernon's ice cream float, went to Belle Isle, toured Greenfield Village and the museum. I worked at the Village from 1957-61 while attending Wayne State and we were married at the Martha-Mary chapel in 1960.
The architecture was amazing. We ate brunch at the Dime Store, and the food was fantastic. Buddy's Pizza was also very good. The Fisher building has free tours, and our tour guide Ted was very knowledgeable and had a lot of patience with my three young children.
