As a local about an hour away, Estes is a fun and quick getaway. The outdoor possibilities are almost unmatched and the town is quirky and fun. Shopping is set up for tourists but not that expensive. Food is everywhere from the simple to very nice dining with the main dowtown area almost like a carnival in variety. We usually only stay a night but with Rocky Mountain National park just outside the town there are reasons to stay much longer.
Many good restaurants, $30 and Under Leather Goods (great stuff), and of course Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). RMNP is one of our favorites and we were able to see Big Horn Sheep, Elk, Deer, Moose, and Wild Turkey. Friendly people everywhere we went.
The weather was great during our stay, and we saw a lot of wildlife. The shops and restaurants mainly were all open. However, not all the attractions were available yet because it was early for the tourist season. There have been a lot of updates to parking since the last time we visited, which made it easy to find parking in Estes.
Unfortunately, during the month of March, there isn't much to do in Estes aside from visiting the shops and touring the Stanley. Both of these things are very fun though! If you're a native and can handle the colder weather, lake Estes has a nice walking trail so you can still be active in nature while most hiking trails are still closed or unusable because of the snow. Beware! None of The Shining was actually filmed at the Stanley. (I found out the hard way). The tour however is still fun, but if you're not a fan of things spooky, DO NOT GO. It is now one of my proudest accomplishments because I get scared very easily. The shops are cute, lots of sweets stores.
This time of year (February) there are a lot of places that are closed or have winter hours in place. That being said, we had a wonderful time because our main focus was snowshoeing in the park. We were able to find plenty of good places to eat as well.
Estes Park was beautiful, a little city up on the mountain, surrounded with gorgeous scenic roads. In winter the white snow covers the mountains, it’s a spectacular view. One thing we were nervous about was the fact that our truck wasn’t 4 by 4, it would definitely help if they let people know about that important detail. If the roads are snowy and you don’t have a 4 by 4 vehicle, please be careful.
The location was great, we had our own patio were we could unwind from our NYC lifes but also from long days of hiking. It was about a 5 minute drive to Estes Park center, where we would go to have a bite to eat. The last day of our stay we woke up with this cute mule deer in front of our lodge which we really enjoyed, and we saw some on our patio too. It was a great and calming start of our stay in Colorado.
Me and my family stay at Estes Park a lot. But this hotel was by far the friendliness and made our stay great one Out family got a nice getaway after New Years and they made us feel at home the hot tub to relax and staff were so nice and welcoming guys in the front. Also x had s’mores for the kids. It was a great getaway and will definitely go again and refer others to this hotel.
The location is great. Only a couple of miles to the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park and downtown Estes Park. We also enjoyed having a hotel with 2 bedrooms. There’s a pool and picnic area that would be great for family time.
Very clean, and well maintained. The staff was friendly. The hotel was also located close to downtown Estes Park, which was also clean with a lot of restaurants and shops I would stay here again.

Estes Park is expensive, this represented good value for money. Both elk and bear walked through the property while we were there. We used the barbeque both evenings.

The young reception guy was a sweetheart and was doing very well under a lot of pressure. Gave us a lovey room even though they didn’t really have one. Best of luck!!
Estes Park
Pretty setting in a little river and elk walking around. 15 minute walk to Estes Park on a sidewalk. Chairs on the river and a hot tub. Three mile drive to RMNP.
