Our experience exceeded all expectations. The location is absolutely wonderful — very close to the town center, yet far enough to truly enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains and the forest. The room was spotless, smelled amazing, and felt extremely cozy and welcoming. The reception and lobby area were like something out of a storybook, with the warmth of a wood-burning stove. We especially loved enjoying a great cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening before bed — the perfect setting for a peaceful and restful night. We will definitely return and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for comfort, atmosphere, and a truly relaxing stay.

the apartment is very cute, and the views are stunning, overlooking the mountains. It is also very quiet and peaceful. The hot tub was a great plus after a tiring day. Zemo and Siobhan are very responsive and welcoming. I highly recommend this place!

FAQs about hotels in Highlands

What guests said about Highlands:

Great location, pleasant staff.

Great location, pleasant staff. I found it odd that there were no closets, dresser draws or hangers in the rooms. I did ask for hangers and I got two, this made it difficult to put clothes away and forced you to live out of your suitcase,

Nice shopping area.

Nice shopping area. Enjoyed all the waterfalls just outside of Highlands. Awesome lunch at The Ugly Dog. It was definitely busy downtown on Saturday. Phenomenal desserts at the Edelweiss Pastry Boutique just outside town.

I expected there to be art galleries to visit, but downtown was mostly clothing stores, restaurants, and realty companies. The main reason for our trip to Highlands was to visit the Bascom Center for the Arts after visiting their web site. Knowing that they (and most art galleries) are closed on Mondays, we tried to visit on Tuesday. However, a small sign at the entrance said they were CLOSED for a private event. This seemed odd during peak tourist season on a Tuesday, but apparently they are mainly a local event venue. The town of Highlands was disappointing. In contrast, Highlands Botanical Gardens and several hiking trails north of Highlands were beautiful. Over our three-day stay I took a lot of inspiring reference photographs to use for painting.

We love the Highlands area.

We love the Highlands area. I do wish the restaurants would be open longer hours and not close during the day. Often we are in the area to work so our mealtimes are often not traditionally timed. We often have to have a midafternoon lunch, or a really late dinner and we have a hard time finding anywhere to eat.

Have been to Highlands 6 X and every time it’s gotten stiffer than before. The Main St restaurants are nearly all dress up w linen, except for the sports bar, Ugly Dog,’ which is great. Try the other Mt towns …much more real people like.

Highlands is a nice up-scale small town in the mountains of southern North Carolina. It's a very laid back, quiet place to relax and have a good time, with excellent restaurants and wineries. Paoletti's Ristorante and the Old Edwards Inn wine garden are fabulous. High Country Wine and Provisions, owned by Sonoma Valley Davis Family Vineyards, is worth a visit, with wine tastings, etc.

The room location (overlooking the woods); the balcony space and set up with chairs, bench and table; comfortable size room (very welcoming); the bathroom area was much better than expected. Courtesy waters was a nice addition. The mini fridge was whimsical! Courtesy coffee in the reception area. Views were espectacular.

The best night's sleep I've had in a long time. Very comfortable bed and quiet surroundings. The shower was like a tropical rain shower. We loved the lattes that we could get in the lobby.
