We came for the Air Show of the Cascades.
We came for the Air Show of the Cascades. We came early arriving Wednesday August 20th and spent 2 nights then checked into our time share at Eagle Crest Friday evening. We enjoyed a movie while in Madras. The Safeway is very convenient and there are a good number of gas stations. We did not eat at any local restaurants this time but have eaten at Black Bear Diner numerous times and enjoyed it.Guest review byNancy - 8.0

Madras is one of those places you stay while on your way to somewhere else - I don't feel like it is a destination as much as a stopover. It's challenging to find a good restaurant here, most are merely "adequate". There is nothing really to "do" in Madras proper, although it is reasonably close to good hiking, good skiing (in season), boating and water skiing, and hunting. The area - central Oregon on the whole - is largely devoid of cultural amenities and is a disappointment to a sophisticated traveler looking for fine dining, live theater, or quality musical performances. We used the refrigerator and microwave to heat up meals we had brought. The breakfast was excellent, and the ambience of the lobby and dining room is very grand. We chose this hotel because we had stayed here before and it is close to the Polka Dot Agate Mine where we dug large thunder eggs.
