In Milwaukee, people are generally friendly, businesses professional and pleasant (though panhandlers seem to hang outside the parking lot by the Hyatt in the morning, between 6 and 7 a.m.!). Really enjoyed DOC's Commerce Smokehouse had excellent brisket, pulled pork, burnt ends, chicken pot pie soup, collard greens, broccoli salad, and Bacardi baked beans. Don't eat alone - each meal can easily serve two! Breakfast a George Webb is not a health food affair, but I love that they will a coffee thermos to go without raising an eyebrow. King and I has a respectable offering of traditional Thai dishes. The tom kha soup was exceptional, though the panang curry was so salty I had to thin it out with more rice than usual to enjoy it. Authentic atmosphere. I've had to work at two conventions over this summer at the Baird (formerly Wisconsin) Center this summer and the construction is a pain, but the venue is decent.
Didn't like much, they actually charged my card upon check in, the outside of Bldg needs to be painted, lobby need updating and clean. Rooms all linen, towels and curtains was dirty and stained, carpet need to be replaced, fridge had fowl smell.
Lots of old architecture and interesting museums. Lake and river right there close to downtown with trails and walking areas. Many nice places to eat and drink with tons of character. Public Market was filled with fresh eats including fish and. produce along with other shops of interest. Very friendly people who are receptive to various groups and diversity. The roads are in terrible shape and badly in need of repair. A small homeless population, but not much being done. Trucks were a bit much.
Milwaukee is a charming city on Lake Michigan known for its breweries, lakefront beauty, cultural attractions, and vibrant festival scene. It offers a mix of historic and modern architecture, a diverse culinary scene, and attractions like the Milwaukee Art Museum and Harley-Davidson Museum. While experiences may vary, visitors often enjoy the city's unique charm and cultural offerings.
Loved visiting the Domes and the zoo. If you enjoy plants and animals, these are good stops for you! There’s plenty of food and restaurants to choose from in the city as well! Parking wasn’t terrible to find, but you did have to pay in some places. I think the most I paid was 8 bucks for 3 hours though, which I don’t think is too terrible. There’s lots of good parks and places to walk, the city felt easy to get around.
We went for Summerfest. The downtown area and waterfront were cute, and the music was good. There were a lot of drunk people, some of them belligerent. Much of the city is spread out and not very walkable -- you need access to a car. It's hard to get an Uber when there are festivals on. We changed out train ticket to leave early.
