Brilliant area if you like red rock formations. Stay 2 nights and drive through Valley of the Gods and up the Moki Dugway in southern Utah while here. If short of time drive in and out of Valley of Gods from Bluff end (not MV end).
You need a good SUV to visit this stunning iconic place. It is aerial and you can imagine any form you like on those rocks. Visit in the afternoon with different lighting shade of the sunrise. Stop as several spots as you wish and take a good camera with lots of photo opportunities. Study the different posted shots and find your own shots. October is just right for comfortable weather.
amazing scenery & location. you can see a lot of the scenery from the road/highway, but it is absolutely amazing to get close to the monuments. Navajo driver led road trips are expensive, but worthwhile if you are on short stay.
Any visitor to Monument Valley needs to take a tour - they vary in length and scope, but the vehicles take you into private property with the best views of the famous formations like the Totem Pole and the Mittens. Our morning tour was a great introduction to the Valley.
Fabulous place. The buttes are mesmerizing, especially with the cloud shadows drifting over them. We took a half-day tour and loved it; you see much more on a tour than you will by driving on your own.
Safari tour with a Navajo guide (Tony) was excellent. Not only did he take us to the normal views but he took us back country to sights only the guides can go. Showed us where to take the best photos. A wealth of knowledge of the area and it's history.
