Portland Maine is a great place for a weekend away or several days. It can be pricey in the summertime. There are many restaurant choices, but you may need to reserve a table. We like going and taking the ferry out to Peak Island in the summer time and walking around the island and exploring the old bunker. There are also many breweries in walking distance to the downtown area to explore.
I love the proximity to the sea. So many eateries are available from seafood to steak to vegan, plus excellent coffee shops. Boutiques, while touristy, nevertheless sell unique things. Mainers are friendly. We especially enjoyed the Inn at St John, and discovered they allow dogs for free! Next time, we'll bring our pup. There are many pet friendly amenities, ferries, etc. Yes, there is a homelessness issue but they're working on that to create hostels. It's a young city, many students. So there's energy and integration - and a hospital if needed. You must do breakfast at Becky's! You can walk everywhere. Meter parking can be steep. Rent a bicycle.
The Regency is located in the Old Port section of Portland and is within walking distance of many excellent restaurants and attractions including the Portland Museum of Art and the Eastern Promenade Trail that skirts Casco Bay and offers wonderful views and picnic areas. The Regency is, in my opinion, the most charming place to stay in the area and the Armory Lounge is a comfortable place to wind down after a day of exploration. A place to relax and enjoy the company of locals. We stay at the Regency every time we visit Portland and have never been disappointed. I highly recommend the city of Portland as a great place to visit and the Regency as a wonderful place to stay. Gary - Cape Cod Mass.
I love Portland, every time there's something new. If you haven't visited in all four seasons you've not seen Portland. The food is fantastic, the people are genuinely interesting and interested. The views, the port, the proximity to the coast, best of all worlds.
We were upgraded to the ‘handicapped suite’ this name needs to be changed as it’s an offensive label in the UK. There was a label outside the room identifying it as tge handicapped suite with a buzzer. The room itself was huge and much appreciated as an upgrade despite the weird label. We had a brilliant stay in the location. Be aware that the breakfast is poor. Plastic cutlery, paper plates, sugary cereals, very limited fruit. Our main issue was the $400 incidentals amount that is placed on your credit card and may not be refunded for 14 days. As there is no restaurant just a snack bar it would be very hard to rack up this amount in 4 days stay. It’s excessive to say the least and was unexpected. Parking is $30 a day!
We stopped by the Visitor center and the staff was very helpful. They recommended a harbor cruise tour that had an excellent guide,Emma! We also did a haunted ghost tour at night that we highly recommend.
My wife and I chose Portland to celebrate Easter as well as our 1st wedding annivesary, and the service at the Hampton Inn downtown could not have been any better. First, the location is perfect as we parked the car and walked for the weekend throughout the extremely walkable city. A little bit of advanced planning helped get us in to the popular spots but we also tried a few local joints and ALL the food was exceptional, everywhere. Even the comp bfast at the hotel was above av. Will make this place our go-to.
A standard large modern functional hotel on the edge of Portland in easy reach of the highway but a long way from the city downtown. The rooms were large, airy and clean with a big comfy bed. Room facilities were what you would expect in this type of hotel. Breakfast was pretty good and varied with lots of space to sit. Not bad value for money.
Wanted to go into the Portland on a nice spring evening and decided to stay the night. Picked the Regency fir its central location in the old port district. Beautiful hotel with great restaurants. Room was perfect, staff friendly and accommodating. Will def recommend.
Portland
Milan was wonderful greeting us and informing us about our stay and the area. Just a 20 minute walk to the Old Port. The room was clean and HUGE! One of the comfiest, coziest beds I’ve ever stayed in! We will definitely be back when we’re in the area next!
Portland
We forgot one of our luggage at the Hotel and the staff sent it to our home in New York. They were extremely helpful and we highly appreciated our stay. We also got upgraded for free, which was great.
It was perfect. The room was excellent with a sea view and the location was perfect. Parking was free just outside the hotel which was a bonus. The staff were very helpful and courteous
A beautiful hotel in an amazing location right in the heart of old Portland. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, right down to the smallest details.
New hotel with good facilities, nice bar & good location. Would definitely recommend and come again! Portland is also a nice place to visit.
Location is awesome if you are flying out of Portland. Very good shuttle service. Relatively close to the Old Port and the Maine Mall.
Good but huge hotel, the walk from the front desk to our room was extensive and the breakfast basically non-existent.
It was late when I arrived. I still got a hot soup at the bar. Good location, still walkable to the old port.
