The Legend of the West
San Antonio in Texas is home to 2 of the state’s top attractions: The Alamo and the Riverwalk. One of the city’s former Spanish missions, the Alamo was the site of a deadly battle that cost folk hero Davy Crockett his life. The other remaining missions - Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, and Espada with its aqueduct - are dotted around the city. The attractive Spanish Governor’s Palace also remains.
The San Antonio River runs right through the city, below street level. Known as the Riverwalk, its banks have been cleverly developed to house riverfront restaurants, bars and shops, and are spectacularly lit for Christmas. There are several San Antonio hotels by the Riverwalk which are also close to the Rivercenter Mall, the city’s biggest shopping center, while La Villita artisan village has more traditional crafts.
Across the road in Hemisfair is the Tower of the Americas, a tall observation tower with a revolving restaurant overlooking the Alamodome, a huge sports and convention venue, home to the annual Alamo Bowl collegiate football game. Booking.com has several San Antonio hotels near the Alamodome, and more accommodations near San Antonio Airport.
On the outskirts of the city are Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The city also hosts the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the country’s biggest Western events.

We went to San Antonio specifically for the River Walk, and I was very impressed. Anything you can think of you can find it in the River Walk. Different kinds of restaurants (Irish, Mexican food, American food, Italian food etc). Make sure you get comfy shoes to walk the 15 miles of the river, but if you prefer you can take a boat ride for only $20 and they will take you around the river and tell you the history of it which is super cool. Few places to visit while in San Antonio: River Walk, The Grotto, The Alamo, Japanese Tea Garden to mention a few.AAnonymous - Scored 1010

A little warm in August when we were there (100+) and humid. There is a lot to do in the San Antonio area. I especially enjoyed going to Bandera, Medina, Fredrickson - not far from San Antonio - rural, small towns in hill country. The German Bistro in Fredrickson was great! There is a lot of crime in San Antonio. Keep room doors and car doors locked at all times. I would avoid hotels that are really close to Lackland AFB. San Antonio is nice, loved the River walk, our stay was too short, wish we could of stayed a bit longer to tour more of San Antonio. Then only thing I did not like were the "turnarounds"!! Just to get to the other side of the road you have to drive all the way down and use a turnaround, I was not a fan of that, other than that, it was very nice. We stopped to eat at Saltgrass Steakhouse, delicious & amazing service.AAnonymous
