FAQs about hotels in San Antonio

The Legend of the West

San Antonio in Texas is home to 2 of the state’s top attractions: The Alamo and the Riverwalk. One of the city’s former Spanish missions, the Alamo was the site of a deadly battle that cost folk hero Davy Crockett his life. The other remaining missions - Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, and Espada with its aqueduct - are dotted around the city. The attractive Spanish Governor’s Palace also remains.

The San Antonio River runs right through the city, below street level. Known as the Riverwalk, its banks have been cleverly developed to house riverfront restaurants, bars and shops, and are spectacularly lit for Christmas. There are several San Antonio hotels by the Riverwalk which are also close to the Rivercenter Mall, the city’s biggest shopping center, while La Villita artisan village has more traditional crafts.

Across the road in Hemisfair is the Tower of the Americas, a tall observation tower with a revolving restaurant overlooking the Alamodome, a huge sports and convention venue, home to the annual Alamo Bowl collegiate football game. Booking.com has several San Antonio hotels near the Alamodome, and more accommodations near San Antonio Airport.

On the outskirts of the city are Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The city also hosts the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the country’s biggest Western events.

I have been going to San Antonio for about 30 years.

I have been going to San Antonio for about 30 years. The ease of getting around was so simple. The last few visits it seemed I had to drive past where I wanted to be and circle back to where I wanted to stop. Used to exit on 1604 but now pass it, Go around and down and then drive miles to get to where I wanted to be. Construction very intimidating and confusing. No, getting around San Antonio is not easy anymore.

It was our first time in San Antonio.

It was our first time in San Antonio. We spent four nights in this clean, green and friendly city. We took a 3 hour private tour our first morning to get an understanding of what the city had to offer. There were many things to see and do. We visited 4 of the Missions, including the Alamo, went to the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Japanese Gardens and La Villita. The history of the City is fascinating. There are wonderful restaurants offering every type of food you could want. The city feels very safe and the residents are friendly and willing to answer questions or give directions.

We paid and went to The River walk Parade, that itself was great but I didn't need to actually pay, since people were able to go thru the open gate and watch for free. So save your $30 and watch from the bridge. The atmosphere on the River Walk was perfect and we enjoyed everything it had to offer. Fright Fest at Six Flags was awesome but so packed, but I paid for the express tickets and we jumped all lines. Can't wait to go back and do some shopping.
