Great place to explore with kids (8/12) - we enjoyed the fish hatchery, Devils Bathtub hike (prepare to get your feet wet), Community Caves hike (tough but super cool, also some river crossings that are iffy), Spearfish falls (easy/short walk/hike), Bridal Veil Falls and Roughlock falls hike (or park at the falls to skip the hike). Food recs: Antunez ancho chile dark chocolate creme brulee - OMG, Leone's Creamery for uniquely flavored ice cream, Dough Trader pizza was great and Blackbird Coffee had delicious breakfast burritos and coffee. Next time we will bring our bikes to hit up the awesome dirt course along Spearfish Canyon.

We visited Spearfish Canyon. It was beautiful.

We visited Spearfish Canyon. It was beautiful. The walk down to see the waterfall was 1.5 miles. It was steep at some spots but would level off to where almost everyone should be able to make the trek. We saw Mountain Goats. Great scenery. Loved it!

Great town with access to the Black Hills.

Great town with access to the Black Hills. Wish I had brought my fly rod and gear. Nonna's Italian restaurant was amazing and walking distance. The Green Bean was literally next door and had perfect coffee and pastries. The town park and fishery area were cool, but the Roughlock Falls were really nice to visit.

Anything in the Black Hills is great and Spearfish is often overlooked for other locations near the 'attractions'. The town has a lot of mountain charm without all the tourons that other communities (especially the gambling ones) have. It is a great place to relax and take in the mountain vibe.

I absolutely love Spearfish area. I love Spearfish Canyon.

I absolutely love Spearfish area. I love Spearfish Canyon. The drive is so beautiful. The river is so beautiful. And it’s fun to stop and walk in it. The wildlife is amazing. There are three waterfalls that are very pretty. I couldn’t recommend the area enough.
