The Refugio was a rustic delight with a terrace overlooking the well stocked family garden and the valley. It's very quiet and we were able to admire the cattle being milked in the fields We didn't realise it was a cook your own supper in the outside Cabanna and so with a few supplies bought locally, we rustled up a mega veggie omelette with burnt sweetcorn - (my fault!) The Hosts were lovely and relaxed

Set in Popayan in the Cauca region, Hacienda Pisoje has a patio. There is an in-house restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. All rooms include a terrace with mountain... I have a special love for Spanish Colonial Haciendas, and have stayed at quite a few, but Hacienda Pisoje exceeded my expectations. What I loved was the absolute authenticity of this hacienda from the 1700's. You definitely can feel like you have stepped back in time staying here. The rooms are large and filled with period piece furnishings. The gardens are just heavenly! Pablo, part of the owner's family, was completely attentive to what I might enjoy doing, and drove me into Popayan (the hacienda is 20 minutes outside of the city) for visiting the City. Popayan itself was a lovely surprise - it is a beautiful city, with fine restaurants and museums and galleries. Cristina, the cook at Hacienda Pisoje, made a delicious breakfast every morning, served with a beautiful smile. This is not a flashy resort experience. It is a beautiful authentic hacienda restful respite.
