Each of the three islands offers something different, but the best activities include picturesque treks, scenic cycling and deep-sea diving. The island of Grande Comore is home to the capital Moroni and its charming medina (old town). If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a two-day hike up to the Karthala volcano crater, complete with overnight campsites on the slopes. Situated at the southwestern tip of the island you’ll find the Trou du Prophète (Hole of the Prophet) – a peaceful, sheltered bay with crystal-clear water. The island of Mohéli is a haven for wandering amongst wildlife, with endangered Livingstone fruit bats, nesting giant sea turtles and a large marine park along the south coast. Anjouan is the most populated island and equally equipped for nature treks and laid-back days at the beach. A great way to see the island is to rent a 4x4 and take in the scenic landscapes and old towns. A variety of beachfront hotels can be found on each island, as well as lodges and apartments.

Great Great Great Hotel in Moroni. The staff was super friendly, they helped me to change money, and they accepted credit card payments. Breakfast is included. The hotel is quiet, and it has some trees that make you forget you are close to the main road. Great value for money!!

I's a nice, relaxing place in a beautiful natural setting. A bit above Nioumachoua and with a very nice view over the hills and coast from the room balcony. Staff was very friendly and helpful and they can inform you about possible activities as well. The room was comfortable and reasonably clean, there was an (intact) mosquito net and air con. The breakfast was included and you can order dinner as well, which was delicious.
Facing the beachfront, Retaj Moroni offers 3-star accommodation in Moroni and has an outdoor swimming pool, garden and shared lounge.

During our stay, my wife fell ill. Diagnosed with severe malaria, she was transferred from the over-worked Moroni public hospital to a private clinic (at the hotel’s initiative). Over the next week, the Retaj’s staff treated us both as family and could not have been more helpful.
