Aside from being home to the world’s largest lagoon and second-longest double-barrier coral reef, New Caledonia also features a wealth of snaking shorelines and piercing blue waters. The entire territory consists of the main island of Grand Terre, the Loyalty Islands, the Isle of Pines and various sparsely-populated islands. Many tour groups provide diving excursions to the island’s UNESCO World Heritage coral-laden lagoon, where you’ll come face-to-face with the likes of butterfly fish, parrot fish and many more. A number of shipwrecks also line the barrier reef, most famously by the Amedee Lighthouse. Hikers should explore the Parc Rivière Bleu in the Yaté region south of Noumea, which features a variety of bird species, dense rainforest and enormous kaori trees. Inside, you’ll be able to choose from a range of walks lasting from 30 minutes up to six hours. Hotels with picturesque countryside or ocean views can be found in most parts of New Caledonia, particularly in capital city Noumea. Self-catering options are also available, with a small number of apartments and guest houses on offer.

What a treat it was to find this gem. Firstly the location is everything, across the road from the best beach in Noumea. And currently the only one you can swim at. And just wait for the sunsets, out of this world. Also the bus to the city and down the coast stops right outside your door. As for the staff and service. Their impeccable hospitality starts before you even arrive. Emails are quickly replied to at all hours. Shuttles and taxis are arranged promptly. You are always greeted with a smile - this just makes ones day. Gives you that feel good holiday feeling. We had a lovely view across the sea from our third floor level room which was well appointed and comfortable. And another unexpected treat is the Babar Cafe downstairs, with it's quirky fun decor, incredibly friendly and helpful staff, serving tasty and fresh food and delicious drinks (from coffee to cocktails), all while again watching the waves right across the road. Plus it stays open from 7am to midnight every day. So in my opinion if you are going to stay anywhere in Noumea stay here- I would go back in a heartbeat.

The room was beautifully renovated, spacious and clean. The kitchen was well equipped and even had a laundry. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The view of the bay was striking and the hotel is close to many restaurants and cafes. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We checked in at midnight and Loic could not have been more welcoming. In terms of room quality, this hotel is tremendous value when compared with the other resorts on offer.

Although on the main road the rooms are set around courtyard and pool and very quiet. The rock garden is spectacular, as are the Polynesian artefacts in the public spaces. Our room with small patio in front looked out to the garden. The restaurant is quite good.

What I liked about the hotel is the interaction with the local people. It offers local touch in the reception; the hotel had a lovely shop which visitors can buy locally sourced/crafted gifts. Common area had an inviting atmosphere. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful to recommend activities in Koumak.

The room was gorgeous and very big! They had everything I needed and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The staff at the reception was so extremely nice and caring. He made sure we were all set. We didn’t have a car so he was worried and organise transportation for us from the hotel to the bus stop the next day.
