This hotel is absolutely magnificent. The opportunity for us to rent a room that the Rani (Queen) used to reside in is a lifetime experience. Serena has done a fabulous job renovating and restoring the historic palace. The staff provides an extremely informative "museum tour" after check-in.
My father and I visited during the first week of Ramzan (month of fasting); yet, the staff were incredibly helpful to allow us to eat meals throughout the day everyday we were there.
The palace is a 1-hour drive from the airport. The drive is on paved roads (mostly) and the view during the drive is a stunning sight for the eyes (mountains, valleys, hills, sand dunes!).
The ancient room we booked did not have temperature control (understandably). The room was warm and stuffy. The hotel staff promptly provided us with 2 fans which made the room extremely pleasant and comfortable.
The hotel is next to a river that rages through the valley. The sounds of this river are soothing and relaxing. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner next to this dinner felt like dining in paradise.
The hotel staff provided us with tips/advice on where to walk around the Shigar Valley. We took a lovely morning walk of about 2 and ½ miles which included visiting: the first and oldest mosque in Baltistan; the polo sports ground field; the central small market area.
My father and I wanted to purchase a book with information about the palace and its history. Such a book does not exist. The hotel room has 3 pages with brief information about the palace in it’s binder. The hotel staff made printed copies of the palace information for us very promptly, which was very kind of them to do.
The hotel uses exquisite fine-bone-china dishes which are fit for royal dining. I wanted to purchase a piece from the collection to keep as a souvenir. The manager gave me the piece when he heard my desire. That was very generous of him.
