Oceanic archipelago. South Pacific paradise. Tonga’s islands are a picture of perfection, as multi-hued mountains slope down onto spotless, sandy shores.
Tongatapu, Tonga’s largest island, is surrounded by coral reefs and home to the capital of Nuku'alofa. Aside from the pristine beaches and superb snorkelling spots, you can also explore ancient tombs and witness coastal blowholes. Kayaking is one of the most popular water sports on Tonga, with full-day excursions and island hopping adventures from local operators. Located just over 17 km southeast of Tongatapu is ‘Eua – one of the oldest islands in the Pacific, home to a trek-friendly tropical rainforest and beautiful beaches on its western side. Most accommodation can be found easily in Nuku'alofa, with a range of beachfront hotels, resorts and B&Bs available.

I loved the quality of the rooms. they were way above expectation for a remote island in Tonga. Well done. Literally nothing was forgotten!
The ability to have the hosts cook you lunch and dinner to your room was wonderful as it was all freshly cooked and to order.
Loved that I could snorkel off the hotel shore. the pool was nice to relax in when it got hot. I know there was a kayak available to us but I didnt get a chance to use it unfortunately.
I was recommended Ricky as THE Snorkel/ Island Tour Guide and he was absolutely great and I would highly recommend him.
The ( Norwegian) Owner was lovely, came to chat and was very attentive and keen to ensure that everything was to my liking. Thank you that was not taken for granted at all.
The Vavua Airport pick up was great, they were there and even took me by the supermarket to stock up on food before we headed to the hotel as it is remote. Worth doing this 100% for snacks, drinks you want ( other than water) .
Loved that the rooms had a kitchen area so you really could cook youselves and be totally self sufficient..ideal for families here.
WIFI was superb...always worked.
this is a great place to get away from it all but very remote and isolated .

We arrived after 4am. Mesui the night watchman was ready to open up and check us into our beautiful room.
After travelling for 23 hours, exhaustion was high. The serene ambiance of Kongakava allowed us to sleep until 2:30pm :)
'Ota ika and seafood plate for breakfast was absolutely delicious! I sipped the coconut in the bowl of 'ota like a fine wine!
After 15 years away from Tonga, Kongakava was like a comforting hug to welcome us back home.
I had a bout of illness and the staff was absolutely wonderful, fussing over me to ensure I was packed and rested enough before checking out. The staff were always calm and super friendly, a sense of no hurrying or pushing us out because we were due for checkout.
The staff, food, ocean view, curated arts pieces and well kept garden was old charm hospitality!
A special mention of staff member David( exceptional customer service with no ask too much, always smiling making us feel like he was an old friend), the kitchen & waitress staff and the housekeeping staff - Malo áupito for showing us the true Tongan spirit of "taliali kakai"

The Harbourview - Vava'u has a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Toula. This 3-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with a private bathroom.
Guest review
We loved our stay at Harbourview so much, we extended it by an extra 7 days! The welcome is warm and friendly, Nat makes you feel at home almost immediately. The little cottages have a terrace you can relax in and a very comfortable bed. If you are lucky one of the cats will walk you to your room every evening and then sleep on your step to make sure you are safe all night! The conversation and happiness around the bar was inviting - daily. The view from the table we quickly adopted as 'ours' overlooking the bay with the perfect breeze and view of all the flying foxes at night was endlessly enjoyable. Laurence - Nat's chef is an artist, every single item we ordered from the menu (and especially the daily specials) was brilliant, some of the best food I have had in all of the South Pacific. Even simple dishes are given Laurence love, I think I ordered the bruschetta 5 times and never tired of it. Vi, makes sure you are always watered (there is a genuinely great selection of wine and Nat's Espresso Martini's and Bloody Mary's are a great way to wile away an entire sunday!), looked after and her and her husband run a taxi service which allows you to feel super mobile even if you don't have a car. She also has incredible tales of sea voyages, just ask her. And Mele looks after you and makes your room feel brand new every morning. In short, Nat has gathered a truly wonderful team around her (there are at least two more people I would like to mention but I feel terrible I can't remember their names - I blame the espresso martini's!) and has a really wonderful little piece of paradise to welcome you into. It's not a resort, it's more homely than that. If you like sharing stories the bar welcomes you with an array of guests who come and go for lunch and dinner, and there are places you can find your own solitude. I will be back. I don't know when.
