HI Vancouver Downtown

West End, Vancouver

A rooftop patio is offered at this non-smoking Vancouver hostel. Free WiFi is provided in public areas. Yaletown-Roundhouse SkyTrain station is just 1 km away. A continental breakfast is included.

Sunset Beach and Robson St are both within 10 minutes’ walking distance from this hostel. Vancouver Aquarium is 3 km away. Hostels are my mainstay accommodations and I always do much research before my final choice. I stayed here an entire week and loved it! The staff were very friendly and helped me plan my destinations using public transportation. I stayed in a 4 bed bunk room with 4 young gals (I’m 69) who were accommodating and friendly. The room was quite small with a small table, a chair, sink, 2 waste cans, 4 lockers where each can fit a carryon suitcase nicely; the gals had huge suitcases compared to my small 24L backpack, but no complaints from any of us. The bathroom on floor 2 was great, very clean shower stalls, toilets, sink, with a mirror, plus another full length mirror. Having many hooks in each stall were very convenient, hooks to hang stripped clothes, clean clothes, towel, a rack to hold soaps and wash cloth, etc. Free towel, pillow case blanket, bedsheet are provided, can’t use your own. Everyday two cleaning staff were on our floors emptying the waste cans, towel bins, spraying disinfectant, wiping the sinks, both in the bathrooms and dorm rooms. HI hostel TAKES PRIDE in keeping this place clean! In doing so, guests may follow their example. The kitchen is spacious, and have everything you need, it’s also tidy, and clean. Breakfast is GREAT! Breads, danish, mini cupcakes, fruit, cream cheese, jellies, juices, milk, all day coffee and tea. Two blocks to excellent public transportation, one block to Davie Street, and easy stroll to downtown, and English Bay. HI hostel Downtown, YOU ROCK! Thank you for a wonderful week! I shall return!

Hostels – what are they?

Hostels offer so much more than a cheap place to stay – they're also a fun way to travel and meet like-minded people. Common areas like shared kitchens and game rooms give you the chance to swap tips, tricks, and travel stories with backpackers from all over the world.

Hostels have come a long way since the first youth hostel opened back in 1912. Nowadays there's something for everyone, from budget "crash pads" to 5-star "poshtels." Whether you'd prefer a bed in a shared dorm or your own private room, you'll see that most hostels are cheaper than local hotels – and a lot more fun, too!
