Aisla Cottage is in a fantastic location, right on the waterfront, looking over to West Cowes and adjacent to the Floating Bridge/Chain Ferry and parking outside front door in private courtyard. Being upside-down in style, means you have fantastic uninterrupted views up the River Medina and also to The Solent. It is a wonderful spot to watch the boats go by and see life in full flow. The property also benefits from two balconies with different aspects and also a shared gravel dinghy park, mainly used for sitting having a sundowner! The property has recently been refurbished to make it suitable for contemporary living and has a smart glass balustrade. It sleeps 6 and the sofa bed is extremely comfortable and better than normal sofa beds, as it has a thicker mattress and is better sprung. The bunk beds are also full size and very comfortable, but kids particularly love the seaside theme of this room, with the tongue and groove panelling, giving it a seaside feel. The property has just about everything you need for a short or longer-term stay and, a short walk to the shops, including Waitrose, so anything you need is hand! It is a perfect base from which to explore the island.
Aisla Cottage was originally our private bolt-hole, when we lived and worked in London and we've been using it for holiday lets for 18 years. We still love visiting it with friends and our children, now grown up, still enjoy it and visit with their friends too. It is cosy and convenient and we enjoy that it is close to the ferry, so you relax as soon as you get on the Red Funnel Ferry from Southampton to East Cowes. Gradually, we started to share the property by letting it out to friends and others too, as we just couldn't get down as often as we liked and we are delighted that so many visitors have enjoyed staying there, whether on holiday or business. We have kept it up-to-date and as it's our home from home, we want you to feel the same way, so there's absolutely everything you need to start your trip, including towels, some basic provisions in the cupboard, e.g. teabags and sugar, etc. plus board games. Aisla Cottage has a waterfront view of the River Medina and The Solent. Because the house is 'upside down' i.e. lounge and kitchen are upstairs, it's the perfect spot to just lie on the sofa or sit on one of the two balconies and watch the boats go by.
There is so much to do and see in East Cowes and Cowes, with lots of great shops and bars. One of the main annual attractions is Cowes Week, with visiting yachts from all over the world. This event ends with a magnificent firework display and usually a Red Arrows display too. There is a Marina in both East and West Cowes, which are places of interest. Osborne House is a short drive away, beloved home of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and family. This is an absolute must-see for visitors to the island, owned by English Heritage there is much more to do than just tour the house, as it hosts many other events in the grounds through the year. Not far away in Whippingham is The Folly Inn, a favourite watering hole of local and visiting sailors alike. Good value pub grub and in high season live music and even dancing on the tables from time to time on a Friday or Saturday night! Child and dog-friendly too and right on the waterfront. Walking through Cowes High Street, there are many chandlers and shops of interest and there is a lovely walk along the front towards Gurnard. Passing through the street you will see fun spots to eat and drink, such as that 60's Place, Tiffins, etc.
