Edens Horizon is a lovely home, owned and managed by Kate, whose parents first built the property in 1951. Located on a hillside overlooking St Austell, the house enjoys sweeping views over the fields and woods beyond. The town itself is just 18 minutes walk away, and we are 2.4 km from the nearest beach. The property includes 3 double and 3 twin bedrooms, all with divan beds, and the linen includes bedding, bath sheets and beach towels. Our 2 comfortable sitting rooms have Sky Q Smart TVs and the large dining room features a table that seats 12 people. The 2 well-equipped adjacent kitchens each have an oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge and sink with plenty of crockery, glassware and cutlery. A kitchen starter pack and goodies are provided. There are 2 washing machines + a tumble drier. There are 2 family bathrooms, plus an ensuite shower toilet and basin, plus a separate downstairs toilet and basin. The mature gardens, designed by Kate's parents, are beautifully maintained, and feature magnolias, azaleas, rhododendrons, and palms, as well as lawns where you can simply sit and enjoy the peaceful views! Edens Horizon was built by Kate's grandfather in 1951 and been renovated recently and extended in 2010 by Kate and her husband Robert into a lovely family home. I love hosting guests at Edens Horizon, the home where I grew up, and always excited to discover more and share Cornwall. I qualified in nursing at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London where I met my medic husband Robert. The draw towards Cornwall was strong on our time off, then and now, when we frequently stay at Edens Horizon with our children and grandchildren. Our youngest daughter was married in St Mewan Church locally and we happily encourage our grandchildren back to keep the family tradition going. I am always keen to share my local knowledge with guests, and if present on arrival happy to share plans and visits for your holiday.
St Austell used to be the centre for China Clay production. The legacy is seen in the Wheal Martyn museum and the Clay trails and cycle tracks that criss cross the area. One of the huge areas of excavation has been used to house the world famous Eden Project. Charlestown Harbour (of filming fame) and the 11 beaches in St Austell Bay are popular with families. St Austell Town centre is 18 minutes walk or a short bus ride from Edens Horizon (every 25 minutes) where there is a multiscreen cinema markets shops bowling alley and a selection of pubs and restaurants. Further afield, Charlestown (2.4kms) has a Shipwreck museum as well as shops and restaurants. Wandering around the harbour side is free and always good with a local ice cream. The Lost Gardens of Heligan on the way to Mevagissey is also very popular. The gardens and child friendly jungle were lost when the men of the Heligan Estate didn't return from the trenches in WW1. I recommend canoeing on the River Fowey, good pub at Golant with outdoor area and walking to Golitha Falls in Luxulyan a magical mossy Glen in the middle of the woods.
