Situated approximately 22 miles northwest of Newcastle, The Granary at Rothley East Shield is wonderfully located to explore Northumberland’s beautiful National Park, coastline and everything in between. The local village of Scots’ Gap (2.8 miles) has a newsagent, small grocers, and a fuel station. If you carry on further south to Kirkharle (8 miles), there’s the lovely Kirkharle Courtyard, which houses a number of independently owned craft units, as well as a farm shop and coffee house. The attractive town of Rothbury is 10 miles away and is home to several independent shops, pubs, cafés, and restaurants for both daytime and night-time eating. It has an excellent butcher shop opposite the T-junction as you drive in, or head to Tulley Delicatessen for a great selection of cheeses. A half-hour drive to the nearby town of Morpeth (12.5 miles) will provide a wider range of shops and eateries, or you can find some lovely characterful shopping in the village shops at Longframlington, Longhorsley and Belsay. Just a 20-minute drive away, The Bird in the Bush in Elsdon comes highly recommended for its bar and restaurant food, and Elsdon is also home to the award-winning, family-run microbrewery, First & Last. Or, if you would prefer to eat-in but let someone else do the cooking, you can order takeaway meals from various restaurants in both Rothbury and Morpeth, including fish and chips, Italian, Indian, Chinese and Thai cuisines.
