You’re in for a treat when you meet Andy and Peter! Whilst at the Royal you'll have the pleasure of meeting Andy our General Manager. This guy always brings a smile to our face and our customers' faces. We like to think of him as our very own version of First Dates Fred Sirieix but without the matchmaking, he's kind of a big deal... but he's far too modest to admit it! Andy has worked in Michelin star restaurants and in some pretty incredible fine dining environments and it's a pleasure to have him leading our team! But Andy wouldn't be happy without Peter Matysek our head chef. A chef for 16 years, Peter has worked his way up from the bottom. He’s worked in Australia, Normandy, Austria, The Channel Islands and Switzerland. His passion is good fresh food especially sea food. His all-time favourite dish to cook? A Sicilian fish stew. This special combination means you'll experience a mix of your traditional favourite pub classics amongst exciting dishes from around the world. All produced in house from seasonal produce sourced from local suppliers. Then served to you in style by Andy and his team.

Our owner Henry has a love for travel, socialising and enjoying great food and wine with friends and family. Having travelled extensively it's all about creature comforts and these start with the environment which has to be vibrant, welcoming, and stylish. In 2022 Henry purchased what was the Royal Standard here in Wallingford and commenced a complete refurbishment of what was a rather neglected gem. The newly refurbished and rebranded Royal was reopened in May 2023. The pub, gardens and rooms have been completely transformed sympathetic to its 120-year history with a tasteful modern styling to an extremely high standard. The Royal offers 4 rooms, a 40-seater restaurant and an enclosed garden that can accommodate over 100 customers. The Royal has regular events including special themed dining evenings, wine tastings and live music.

Visiting Wallingford With rich history, beautiful riverside and a shopper’s haven, Wallingford is the perfect destination for a day trip or a weekend. It is easy to while away the time exploring the independent shops and antique stores, taking a stroll around the Castle Gardens, the former site of one of England’s most impressive castles, or tracing the remains of Wallingford’s Saxon past.
