The area: Peristeri is the fourth-largest municipality in Greece and an Athenian suburb. It was once made up of open fields along the Sacred Way, an ancient procession route from Athens to Eleusis. In the early 1900s, it grew during the Greco-Turkish War and again after World War II. In the early 2000s, it was linked to Central Athens via the Athens Metro via Line 2. The Daphni Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is just ten minutes west of Peristeri. It's one of a trio of UNESCO-protected monasteries in Greece. The Diomidous Botanical Garden is a few minutes away in Chaidari. It is officially the largest botanical garden in Europe, encompassing over 186 hectares and planted with 2,500 species. Also nearby is the Alsos Peristeriou Park, a popular attraction in Peristeri. Another attraction is the Peristeri Stadium which is home to the Atromitos F.C.
