Esquilino is one of the seven hills of Rome, extended the nearby Monti neighborhood: between Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in Santa Maria Maggiore, Via Giolitti to Via Merulana; its center is Piazza Vittorio. The Basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme is on the southern summit and is one of the oldest churches in Rome, belongs to the tour of the Seven Churches, that once the pilgrims visited on foot. The relics of the Passion of Christ make the famous basilica in the world. The church has the largest share of Jesus' cross; the cross of the Good Thief, the one crucified on Jesus' right; a finger of St. Thomas; a part of the inscription INRI, written in Hebrew, Latin and greek. A bit 'of the land of Jerusalem is buried in the Chapel of St. Helena: from this derives the name "Jerusalem." Porta Maggiore has a large current structure with two arches and is all that remains of the exhibition of the waters in which converged eight of the aqueducts which fed Rome, located between the square Labicano and Piazza di Porta Maggiore, was named Porta Maggiore during the Middle Ages, presumably because from there we went to Santa Maria Maggiore.
