Piazza Margana, located between Via dei Delfini and Via della Tribuna in Tor de 'Specchi, takes its name from the ancient Margani family, among the most powerful of medieval Rome, who had a house with a tower here since the 14th century. Entering this square one has the impression of being in a small village, with buildings whose architectural style ranges from the Middle Ages to the seventeenth century and with an atmosphere that conveys a sense of ancient, of place that remained unchanged over the centuries. The Margani building complex (in the photo below the title), consisting of a building around a truncated tower, developed between the 14th and 16th centuries. The origins of this noble and powerful Roman baronial family date back to the 12th century, even if the first of the family of which we have news is Giovanni who in 1305 bought this tower from Andrea Mellini. The complex has its oldest part in the brick tower, originally from the fourteenth century but with later additions, which stands on a base that incorporates the remains of a Roman portico, of which appears a column with an Ionic capital.
