Apartment located at the third floor in Palazzo Bargellini, formerly Palazzo da Verrazzano, Florence. Due to the old age of the palace there is no elevator. The current name derives from Piero Bargellini, mayor of Florence during the 1966 flood and famous historian and writer, who lived there starting in the 1940s. Inside the building there is Lo Studio di Bargellini, which has been the House of memory since 2006 and can be visited free of charge by appointment. The garden is periodically opened to the public on a few occasions throughout the year. The member of the Gherardo di Michele da Cepperello family was responsible for the construction of the building at the beginning of the sixteenth century, to determine the elegant current forms. The property passed to the Alamanneschi in 1578 and to the dell'Antella in 1650, to then be purchased in 1662 by Isabella Gerini, wife of Senator Andrea da Verrazzano. Then in 1819, it belonged to the Casamoratas and then to the Parenti, Antinori, Fedeli and Bargellini families (since 1946). Then becoming the home of Piero Bargellini, who lived there in the years that saw him mayor of the city affected by the flood. It was precisely to Senator Piero and his wife Lelia Cartei, as well as to their heirs, that we owe the careful restoration of the building carried out within the sixties of the twentieth century. The building is to be judged, as repeatedly emphasized in the literature, among the most beautiful and preserved in Florence. Important restorations to the facade dating back to 1933 are documented and, in the context of a history that was given careful attention throughout the twentieth century, in addition to those already reported in the sixties after the flood. The last intervention was completed in 2007. The building appears in the list drawn up in 1901 by the Directorate General of Antiquities and Fine Arts, as a monumental building to be considered a national artistic heritage.
