The accommodation is fantastic; it's like being in a movie. Rehan is the best host we could have asked for, helping us immediately with a medical emergency we had. I highly recommend staying here!

Réhan
The oldest remaining official residence and company housing in Japan. Situated within the historic silver mining town of Ikuno that has been designated as a national important cultural landscape. These "Koushataku" houses were built by the Mitsubishi Corporation around 1876 and are now designated cultural properties of Asago City. In such a historic building, you can experience accommodation while thinking about the life of the past. Normally, the former Ikuno Mine staff dormitory (Koushataku ) is a tour facility, including the administration building on the premises. Accommodation is available in buildings 9 and 19, both of which are nostalgic buildings from the Meiji era. Guests can enjoy the life and culture of the mining town while remembering the past.
Born and raised in South Africa, I moved to Japan in the Summer of 2017. Lived for 3 years in Sapporo and now living in Asago City. I work with the local government and community to support and develop new projects relating to the revitalization and promotion of the area. Rural towns in Japan with their unique histories and cultures are threatened by depopulation and an aging society. By choosing to stay here, you are directly contributing to the survival and sustainability of a very unique, historic, and special town. Your support also helps me and my work to have a significant and lasting impact. If you require any assistance with information about the accommodation, area, tours, etc, please do not hesitate to ask.
Guests can freely and leisurely explore Ikuno town and its Silver Mining history. Discover the rest of what Asago City has to offer such as the Takeda Castle ruins which are a sight to behold during autumn with a sea of clouds surrounding the ruins in the early morning. In addition, the area retains a vast amount of nature and over 1200 years of history, including some interesting French influences from the industrialization period.
