We stayed two nights (one with heavy rain and one with clear sky and lots of stars around us - I can't decide which was the better one, because also the one with the thunderstorms had it's own charme). Kim, our host, was very kind and his home baked bread is fantastic. We saw a lot of different birds (Fantail, Weka etc.). Taking a warm bath in the nature is amazing. Thank you for having us!

this was the best place we have ever stayed. stunning scenery and the outdoor bath was magical. The host was incredibly kind and welcoming. we felt like we were in a hidden forest. It was a relaxing experience, did not want to leave.

We’ve never “Glamped” before so had nothing really to compare to this. The access path is steep and not for the fainthearted, but at night decorated by glow worms. Kim, the host takes luggage from the parking area to the tent by 4X4 so if you can manage the steps access isn’t a problem. The tent is substantial with a large covered veranda with powerful gas heater, table and comfortable chairs. It is reasonably well equipped, with 12v lighting to augment candles etc. The bed is large and comfortable, the shower is great , with loads of hot water and good pressure, and being watched showering by an inquisitive Fantail was a new experience. The surrounding bush foliage means the entire site is sheltered and shady. The macerating loo works well. Little touches like homemade bread, jam, eggs from their hens, and grapes from their own vine all add to the experience, as do visiting possums, weka and other birds. There’s good mobile reception if you can’t do without!

Kainiere Tailings is just an unique experience with an excellent host. Kim is a lovely person whom takes care of you as soon as you arrive. The tent is absolutely comfortable and perfectly equipped. A MUST as you drive past Hokitika.

From the very friendly welcome to the magical accommodation everything about our stay here made it our favourite. Climbing steps past glow worms to the tent with its large comfortable bed, the outdoor bath and shower and of course the home grown fruit, home made bread and jams, and the home laid eggs that made for a wonderful breakfast.

If you like to be close to nature, living here must be a great choice. Wake up to the sound of birds singing in the morning, the soft sunlight shines in through the gaps in the leaves, breathe in the fresh air, the fragrance of the soil, and the fragrance of the trees. Looking at the stars in the sky from the gaps in the trees at night, and falling asleep listening to the low chirping of insects. If you have the habit of meditating, the environment here is definitely suitable for meditation. Kim is a very amiable person, he helped us a lot during our two days of stay, by the way, there is also Kim's puppy Molly, so cute, Molly finally came to visit us yesterday, we had a lot of fun with her. Thanks for all of this, and best wishes to Kim's family.
