Bed&Breakfast in a 3-bedroomed villa in Matalatala, a rural village 2 hours SE of Manila. On Laguna Bay, close tothe town of Mabitac, Pagsanjan which is famous for its waterfalls, and Paete with its Spanish church, this is good as a centre to explore historic Laguna, & the beaches & fresh fish of the Pacific coast at Real which is just 1 hour away by bus or jeepney, or simply to chill out! There are 2 bedrooms for rent, each with a good double bed. The third room currently being redecorated, it has air conditioning. It can be rented as an alternative to the Teal Room, for an additional charge of 500php per day. There is no running hot water, both showers are unheated. For those of you for which this is too shocking, I can offer you a "bucket shower" - a large bucket topped up with boiling water from the kettle. You are welcomed to use the kitchen - there is a gas stove in our outside kitchen, and an electric oven inside. If you need to wash some clothes, just ask me and I'll help you with our washing machine. There is a Netflix connection on the TV

There is a lot of information on Laguna available on Internet, and I advise you to do some research before visiting. One useful address is the website "lagunatravelguide" Matalatala is situated on a plain, with Laguna de Bay (Laguna Lake) on one side, and surrounded by mountains on the other sides. The plain is full of rice fields, where caribou are still a popular means of preparing the rice fields. Local to the house there are numerous walks either through rice fields (with little shade) or up into the hills (shaded by trees) to visit remote villages and beautiful rivers and waterfalls. I will be happy to tell you about these. For the more adventurous, there are more strenuous climbs up some of the local mountains – I can arrange a guide for that, need to count about 500php for a day! Also possible to do trips on horseback, that would be about 700php – 800php per person. Mabitac is of some historical note, it was the site of a battle between the locals and the Americans in 1900, and it has an old Spanish church on a hillock overlooking the rice fields. Search for "Battle_of_Mabitac" for details, also "Mabitac" There are several simple resorts locally, where you can go to enjoy the swimming pools. Further afield is Pagsanjan and its waterfalls – that’s easy to do in a day by public transport! Already mentioned is the Pacific Coast, reachable by bus or jeepney. Some good sandy beaches there, but some rocky ones as well. Also doable in a day
