It was authentic and out of the hustle and bustle of Kona but close to beautiful beaches.

The retreat operators offered communication via WhatsApp (very helpful for international travelers), they seemed very friendly and responsive. The bed was very comfortable with very soft sheets. The well ventilated room allowed you to enjoy the coastal breeze. There was a lot of items you could freely use such as snorkelling gear, beach chairs & umbrellas etc.

A great location for a stay in Kona as it was 5 minutes walk to an excellent beach for surfing and snorkeling. Nice bright rooms with fans to cool then. Kitchen had all the equipment for cooking and serving meals. Nice balcony with sea and sunset views. Easy parking on site for our large vehicle.

I liked the attention to detail and the ability to lend beach chairs, snorkel and goggles. I also liked the common area kitchen and fridge for the rooms that were small and had limited space. Karen the manager was very efficient, helpful and friendly and made some great recommendations around places to snorkel and have good sundowners. thank you

I stayed at the Big Island Retreat while competing at the Ironman World Championship. What a stunning find, a perfect hotel for the race, close enough to Kailua-Kona to be accessible, far enough away to avoid the chaos. If you like older buildings, this is the place, so nice to stay in a room with real character It wasn't cheap, but still great value compared to the crazy prices that other places charge. Big room, lovely veranda, excellent cooking facilities, great bed, plenty of parking

Good location opposite a great snorkelling spot. The room (aloha room) was sweet with a comfy bed. The little kitchenette in the room had everything we needed for our stay.

Location was great. Short walking distance to a popular family oriented beach park. Set back from main street so no street noise. Stands up to name "retreat". The use of on-site beach equipment like noodle, snorkel gear, boogie board was so handy, especially for overseas visitors. It meant we could enjoy the beach the same as locals or mainland visitors i.e. no need to tow around our own personal beach aids. Also a fantastic detailed guidebook of the island provided in the room. Free parking for the car.

It was a very nice and comfortable stay at the Big Island Retreat! We had everything we need in our Seaside room. We really enjoyed the quiet area and that we heard the ocean from the bed! The view when we woke up in the morning was really beautiful! We loved our balcony with the seaview! Parking was good next to the building and there were plenty of spots!

I stayed three nights at the 'Bamboo Room'. Very quiet, very cosy. Nice kitchen, a few more kitchen knives would be useful though. To enjoy your stay a car is necessary.
