This over 200-yr-old Barn House (ours) & later-added 2-story Guest House (where Guests stay) was what we were looking for to build on the bare bones of & expand gradually, gently. The land is free from pesticides and non-organic fertilizers. This is NOT a farm stay--guests are NOT to pet or feed the farm animals. Enjoy the views--photograph, take in the abundance of nature. WE DO NOT DO INSTANT BOOKINGS (send us an inquiry)--we have a MINIMUM OF 3-NIGHTS STAYS. One week stays are at a reduced rate, check with us about staying for a month and the rate(s). We also require at least a week of advance notice (TEXT or e-mail only). There is a seasonal organic guest house garden in summer for guests to gather salad fixings and more. Offsite, the close by, near-private sanctuary down the road has pristine water in the 2 main ponds, a scenic outlook (well marked & laid out hiking), and is wonderful for fishing, swimming, exploring, & getting away from it all. Bring your camera! Bread & Puppet Theater is just another mile further away. Lots of other swimming/boating places and farmer's markets nearby, and outdoor summer concerts on Craftsbury Common. Circus Smirkus & the Highland Arts Center are further way in Greensboro, plus top-rated Hilltop Farmstead brewery. Burke Mtn,. has many events and Kingdom Trails has world class mtn. biking events. In winter there is Nordic & x-country Skiing at Burke Mtn, fat tire biking at Kingdom Trails, and the cross-country trails at the Open Center (Craftsbury).
Like me, you will be in love with what we have right here and looking out the windows at the birds, farm animals, and changing views of the mountains to the west -- so much better than working in tall buildings! Guests also love running out to our garden 'market' in the summer to grab a fresh salad & fixings from our organic Guest House garden. Stephanie loves to take guests through the Guest House garden and introduce them to what is available (herbs, greens, more). If your life is fast-paced, you will soon slow down and unwind here. The fresh air, views and nature are very soothing and healing.
The almost private sanctuary/Holbrook State Park is 1/4 mile away. Wonderful place to spend time in. Then go on to a performance at the world-famous Bread & Puppet Theater about a mile further on. Many lakes/ponds, farmer's markets, etc. nearby. Circus Smirkus, and nearby wildly popular Hill Farmstead Brewery are about 20 minutes away (best beer in U.S.), open-air concerts in summer in Craftsbury, and Shadow Lake has great swimming, and boating if you bring a boat/kayak, etc.. St. Johnsbury has the Catamount Arts Center (films & more), quaint shops, a great Farmer's Market on Saturdays, and Stephen Huneck's gallery/dog chapel/& dog-themed events at Dog Mountain. Many things close by, and terrific places to eat. You will find an information loose-leaf with area info, menus and maps here.
