A character cottage in a character town. Barrydale is a small country village three hours from Cape Town on the scenic R62 - the perfect stopover en route to Oudtshoorn, the world-renowned Swartberg Pass and the beautiful Garden Route. While in easy walking distance of all shops and restaurants, our self-catering cottage is perfectly situated on the edge of the village. Relax in style and enjoy traditional Karoo hospitality. The space: Wake to birdsong as the early-morning sun tints the mountains around you. Adjacent to the main house, our self-contained cottage comprises a small well-appointed kitchen open plan to dining- and living-room. Your bedroom is on a mezzanine floor above the living area. Sleep peacefully beneath a canopy of Karoo stars. A private terrace with a traditional farm-style braai/barbeque completes the picture. And on those hot summer days guests are welcome to wallow in our pool and relax in the shade of the willows.
As a film director, Teri has covered the four corners of this continent in search of the stories that make Africa unique, while Ren has trawled the markets of Africa in search of all that is beautiful. She is also an adventurous cook. While the village hosts numerous restaurants, Ren – by prior arrangement - can serve you a delicious meal on your terrace. Teri’s on hand to help you plan excursions that unearth the secrets of the Klein Karoo – from whale watching at de Hoop Nature Reserve, to exploring the world’s longest wine route - the R62. We’re available at all times to help you make the most of your stay in this unique corner of the world. You are welcome.
The village lies in a small valley surrounded by mountains whose slopes are covered in fynbos – the smallest, but the richest and most diverse, of the world’s five floral kingdoms. Discover its wonders on foot. Picnic in the nearby Tradouw Pass and swim in crystal clear mountain pools. Visit the healing hotsprings of the nearby Warmwaterberg. Walk amongst the redwoods of the Grootvadersbos Reserve. Sip wine at the renowned Joubert Tradouw estate, or sample some of the finest brandy South Africa has to offer at Barrydale Kelders. Cycle the peaceful backroads through fruit farms or challenge yourself to demanding 4x4 trails up the Langeberg Mountains. Whatever pleases you - stay a while and discover the true heart of Barrydale. Getting around: Barrydale is a tiny village, and most places you need to go are accessible on foot. Crime is a rarity - and you're safe day or night.
