This is one of those cases where photos don't do the real thing justice. We were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of all the furnishings of this hotel - the wardrobes, balcony door and other furnishings in the room were made of hard wood and smelled nice; the staircase in the lobby and other corridor furnishings looked as if they were preserved with great care from the 70s. We'd never been to a hotel that exuded so much old-world charm without trying too hard. Everything was sparkling clean, too. There was even an old-fashioned bidet in the room. We enjoyed having drinks on the lawn and looking at the signed Dali prints just next to the lobby. There's a calm, understated glamour to the whole place, down to the uniforms of the waiters and their impeccable service. Ambience-wise I would rate this hotel 10/10, but you wouldn't be able to tell from the photos. We even spotted dolphins at the cove during sunset from the lawn area, which was such a beautiful surprise. We chose to eat at Bites next to the lawn for dinner one night. It completely exceeded our expectations! We expected ordinary tapas but were blown away by the creativity and the taste of everything we ordered. Don't underestimate Bites!! Breakfast at the main restaurant was also excellent, with a great range of fruit, pastries, ham and a popular pancake machine. We got there on time to secure a table in the morning sun. Location - we didn't know what to expect when it came to the walking distance to the beach and how many stairs there would be. In reality the path to the beach is very well-maintained and it's an easy 7-minute gentle slope, accessible through the hotel gate next to the pool. It feels super secure with the CCTV and the key-card entry from outside, too. There's only a few steps involved. Almadraba Beach was an absolute haven and we didn't feel the need to visit any of the big 'commercial' beaches of Roses at all.
