I had no real desire to go to Las Tunas, but after backpacking around Ecuador and Peru for a while, all of the favorite people I met on the road seemed to have the exact same recommendation: Go to Onda Hostel. So I texted the hostel owners on Whatsapp, where they proceeded to be somehow genuinely interested in answering my millions of questions over text before I arrived, arranging for transport, and even picking me up a massive guanabana just because I casually mentioned once I'd like to try it. The beds are comfortable, the A/C is cool, and the coffee is endless, but it's truly the people that make this place great. The owners are passionate about building a community and they instill that same stoke in their volunteers. If you're looking to stay in a place with some atmosphere, there is none greater in the Americas. I booked at this hostel for two days and stayed on for weeks, only leaving because I had to. We had to leave him while whle watching and let them know. They had someone walk the dog and make sure it had food and water. our dog has seperation anxiety and started barking. The staff took him to the lobby to keep him company and all of them played with him while keeping other guest from being annoyed.
