This 19th-century hotel is located in the centre of beautiful Mont Dore, and makes a wonderful base for exploring the Massif du Sancy. Beautiful, grand old hotel in the heart of Mont-Dore, perfectly located for walking around downtown. The breakfast was outstanding—eggs, pastries, hot oats, and more (French eggs really are superior!). Our room was lovely, with a full bed and a twin, ideal since I tend to twitch at night. Just note there’s no lift/elevator, which may matter for some travelers.

32 km from Rodez Train Station in Conques-en-Rouergue, Domaine du Mas Naut offers accommodation with access to a hot tub, spa facilities and wellness packages. I never give a perfect 10 for any holiday location but this will be the exception. Heidi and Gunter are exceptional hosts - lovely genuine people who made our brief stay a wonderful experience. We ate on location both evenings and it was perfect - pizza on the second night from an ancient oven. We could only stay a couple of days - would love to return to this piece of paradise.
