A wonderful stopover as we walked the Nakasendo trail. The hosts, Ken and Yuki are super friendly, kind, and fluent in English which is rare in smaller hotels in Japan This small hotel is very cozy, the food is delicious and there is a small bar in-house which is great since there is not much to do in Magome at night. Rooms are spacious, traditional tatami and bed available. We had a very nice view of the mountains. Even though bathrooms are shared there are only a 5 rooms in the property, so not a lot of people and everything is spotless clean.

Set in Shirakawa in the Gifu region, with Shirakawago nearby, Shiroyamakan features accommodation with access to a hot tub. Everything. It was an amazing experience and everyone working there was just incredible. We would recommend everyone passing through Shirakawago to stay here. It was simply unforgettable.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. We had a wonderful 1-night stay at Auberge Hida no Mori! It is set in a peaceful location about 5-10 minutes drive outside of Takayama. The main attraction has to be the wonderful meals put together by chef Toshi and his wife. Absolutely sign up for the meals, you will not regret it.

Just a 5-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station, Minshuku Kuwataniya offers cosy Western- and Japanese-style rooms with a flat-screen TV. Onsen is great. Staff are very friendly. Traditional japense room was comfortable . Location is great. We did not book with meals included.
