Wonderful hospitality and exceptional vegetarian Shojin Ryori cuisine. Great base to explore Mt Haguro. Hotel staff accepted our baggage, despite it being too early to check in and directed us to a local museum where we could borrow rain boots and poles to hike Mt Haguro in extreme snowy conditions!

Featuring an open-air bath and views of river, R;MOGAMI is a recently renovated villa set in Kiyokawa, 27 km from Shinjo Station. Staying at R;MOGAMI was truly an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Even before our late arrival, the kind gentleman in charge guided us patiently through everything via a messaging app—making sure we felt welcomed and informed before even stepping through the door. Upon arrival, we were amazed: the room was spotless, beautifully scented, and perfectly prepared. The view was absolutely breathtaking, and everything was designed for comfort and relaxation—an electric barbecue, a warm outdoor bath, and even a fully stocked fridge with a delicious homemade dinner and breakfast ready for us. What truly made it magical was the subtle care: the next morning, while we were away, they quietly collected the used items and restocked the fridge with a fresh dinner—like little invisible fairies making sure everything remained perfect without ever disturbing our peace. This place is perfect for anyone looking to disconnect, reconnect with nature, or enjoy a romantic escape. I still don’t know the name of the kind man who greeted us each morning with a warm smile, but I want to sincerely thank him—his presence made our stay even more special. I can only recommend R;MOGAMI with all my heart.

Offering mountain views, Wakamatsuya in Zao Onsen provides accommodation, an open-air bath, a garden, a terrace, a bar and a shared lounge. The hotel was lovely and staff were excellent. Great location and an easy walk to the ski field and village for dinner. I stayed in a traditional Japanese room and the view of the village was beautiful. The staff were always helpful and very friendly. Highly recommend.

ユニテ蔵王ジョーニダ リゾート is a recently renovated apartment in Yamagata, near Zao Onsen Ski Resort. There is an in-house restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. A lot of space in the annex, private, had its own parking and staff provided exceptional service.

Yuuyu No Sato Yusa offers a sauna and free private parking, and is within 12 km of Zao Onsen Ski Resort and 2.9 km of Lina World. We had one out of the four private outdoor onsen rooms. The onsen was running continuously and could be enjoyed at any time of the day. Food was fine, typical of what you’d expect out of a onsen hotel.

Situated in Yamagata, 200 metres from Zao Onsen Ski Resort, 蔵王温泉 林檎屋 has ski-to-door access, private parking and rooms with free WiFi access. Great location, a short walk to the cable car station and close to the public hot springs. The restaurant nearby serves excellent food. The owner provides excellent service and takes great care of guests. The heaters are on in the rooms and along the corridors, making it warm at night.

Located in Ōyama, 3.7 km from Kamo Aquarium, Yunohama HOTEL provides accommodation with a spa and wellness centre and free private parking.

Located in Nishikawa and only 43 km from Tendo Station, Tsutaya provides accommodation with mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking. A hot tub is available for guests. The atmosphere was superb, very helpful and kind staff! The food was also brilliant, I also used their sauna room which was very nice too and very reasonably priced. Overall, wonderful for the price. The view from the room of the lake was unbelievable as well.

Located in Tsuruoka in the Yamagata region, Ikkyu -Seaside Hotel- provides accommodation with free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. Amazing location by the sea. We watched a perfect sunset from our dinner table and walked on a beautiful beach in the morning. The staff are very kind, helpful, and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Cold green tea is available outside the baths. A probiotic drink was offered in the morning.
