Salvador’s cobblestoned central old town, Pelourinho, is the place to be. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and music is everywhere, especially Tuesday nights and on weekends. This area is not large so wandering around is easy and fun. People watching is great here. Be careful in crowds because pickpockets do operate in Salvador. Police provide good security to keep this area safe – wandering too far outside is not recommended, especially at night. Salvador’s main square in the Pelourinho, Terreiro de Jesus, is surrounded by bars and sometimes has performers during the day. Taxis can be found here. It leads into our favorite nighttime square, Largo do Cruzeiro de Sao Francisco that has restaurants where you can sit outside and enjoy music. You should try a unique Bahia dish such as Moqueca, a rich fish stew. Three of Salvador’s squares have been set up with stages offering music shows many days. Largo Pedro Arcanjo and Largo Tereza Batista are accessed from the streets Gregorio De Matos and Largo Quincas Berro D’Agua from Rua V.C. Rarelo. The shows are often free or have small cover charges (unless a big name band comes in). You can stand and dance or sit at a table enjoying a drink or meal at several restaurants.
Avoid guys offering you "free" Fitas (colorful ribbon) as a gift to you as a Friend. Also avoid side streets which can be dangerous for foreigners. Also after sunset be aware for areas not covered by Military Police because it can be tricky
Take care! Watch twice! Never be alone! Never take your belongs out of your pocket or bagpack! Better, don't take them with you! Never talk to someone along the street (could be a distraction or a sign to someone else) Never enter in the small alleys that you find there, could be a trap! Never depend on the cops, they won't help you out! Don't look too much to someone here Yeah, think 50 times before you come here.
We love the Pelourinho! It reflects old Salvador so well. Except for this trip, when we stayed in Barra for Carnaval, we usually stay near the Pelourinho. My friends and I would return there in a heartbeat, rather than to Barra.
a place that must be visit without hurry from midday to the evening as all the schools made their performance on the streets, great event with local and traditional food to follow. Lots of various arts in one place.
You can see the police everywhere. And if there is no police you must not go. We felt unsafe and in danger. Very much addicted people to hard drugs hanging around and disturbing you with local bracelets.
Breakfast was amazing with quiches and eggs, and fruits pie every day. Very good. The staff was very kind and very atentive. Room was very clean. Pelourinho is a very secure neighbourhood with a lot of shops, restaurants, church and a great museum 10 minutes away (Afro-Brazilian Museum from the University of Bahia). You can go by foot. Elevador Lacerda is just over there. Carlos Costa Pinto museum is very interesting about the colonial way of life. Enjoy Salvador!
This property is in the heart of the Pelourinho historic district in Salvador. These are apartments with kitchens and dining/sitting areas. Great value for the money, very clean, comfortable accommodations. Breakfast available for additional charge and served in your flat. There is an AC unit in the bedroom. The staff came up every day and cleaned. They were gracious and kind to us throughout our stay.
The hotel is a boutique hotel, located at the main street of the Pelourinho (the old center of Bahia); we were there as in the colonial time (the doors, the floors, the stairs, the decoration, etc). The restaurant is small but excellent: gourmet meals and the best of all: the caipirinhas (the typical brazilian alcoholic drink). The staff was very friendly. Everything fine.
On Praca Se, a 3-story with art decorated exterior with Afro-Brazilian decor.Great staff. Plenty of breakfast options. Fresh hot coffee. Clean. Room has A/C. Great location to absorb Pelourinho area plus easy car distance to area's neighborhoods like Barra and Vittoria and Salvador's museums.
Breakfast was increasingly, even with the restrictions because of covid-19. Everything was excellent . The Receptionists were very polite, always there to help, especially Beatriz and Victoria.! The hotel is a 5 minutes uber drive from Pelourinho and the Port.
This is a clean, simple hostel with helpful staff right near the main attractions of Pelourinho. Perfect for meeting others, and the opportunity to eat there for lunches and dinners too (crepes were great!!) was welcome.
Located in the heart of the refurbished section of the Pelourinho. Charming historical building converted into a boutique hotel. Lovely garden restaurant with an interesting menu.
Very adorable staff. Amazing pool. The hotel is near to most touristic points of Salvador, such as Barra Lighthouse, Pelourinho, etc. Very nice place to stay in Salvador.
Pretty new hostel in the middle of pelourinho and historic center! The internet was also great in the bedroom.
