Excellent place with something for everyone, but don't expect to see it all in a couple of hours. The collection is huge. Don't bother with the non- museum touted tours or 'mystery' tours. Not worth the money and you only get a sheet of paper and a pencil - then you're on your own. Better , especially if you have kiddies, to check if the museum run sessions are on, they are much better. The food here is a rip off.
Possibly the best museum in the world! And Free! Go for 3 hours at a time max. You will burn out before then. Do a quick Google search for what may be your interests. There is no way you could see the entire museum in a week even.
Sometimes I travel to London only to pay a visit to the British Museum. This is an amazing place, and you should be prepared to visit only parts of it at a time. Take the hall of enlightenment. That hall alone would be a very important museum by itself. So take 1 max 2 hours pick 1-2 rooms and spend your time there, do not try to cover everything. The museum has a free entry, you can come back another time and see some other parts as well. Sadly, the special exhibitions, are IMHO usually not worth the price they are asking. It is probably unfair to compare it to everything else that is outside, but as a tourist visiting London, there is so much to explore in the museum, that you will not really miss all that much if you do not go to the special exhibitions. The northern entrance is usually less crowded so you can get through the (frankly ridiculous) security checks faster.
OMG, it's massive and has things I've read about like the Elgin Marbles and Rosetta stone. Must see and then come back and see again. Special exhibits are good too. The restaurant was expensive and had a small range of items to eat.
You need a good few hours to browse, maybe a whole day. Eat a hearty breakfast. If walking/mobility is tough you can use a complimentary push chair/wheel chair - Security will take a 30 mins getting in, families and disabled/elderly folks have an express lane. Go early - enjoy your day!
Make sure you have good walking shoes on. Also - take pictures of some of the exhibits. You can bring your own food to the cafe area in the main arena. There are some good books for sale there, as well.
This hotel is beautiful inside and out, and has a great vibe in the lobby bars and restaurant. The rooms are very well appointed and spacious - ours was a family double beds and it was clean and had comfortable furniture and beds. The location is excellent as well, across from Russell Square and very near to the British Museum, the Egypt Archaeology Museum, and the north end of the theater district.
The location, so close to Russell Square and the British Museum, and on Bedford Place, is of course first class. I chose to return--after decades--because I know both well. But I will not return to Londsdale, even though I love Bloomsbury. The staff was pleasant, helpful in calling cabs for me and helping me with my bag. But otherwise so minimal. Thank goodness, I was able to open the window.
Simple student dorms make for a convenient, easy stay. Beds comfortable enough, great amount of storage space in the room. Sink and vanity as well as closet ensuite. Toilet/showers right down the hall were never busy. Great breakfast included, really was perfect. Location just brilliant, near BT Tower and British Museum, etc. Value for money just stellar imo. Quite an excellent stay.
The location was great! Lots of cute little restaurants and cafe's nearby. Very close to the British Museum and a tube stop. Lots of other things to do within walking distance. I had a single room, which was very functional and had everything I needed including a private bathroom.
Location was good - especially for my office. Super close to Covent Garden shopping, the British Museum was a short walk, etc. Staff was nice and hospitable. Rooms were clean and with the option to have it cleaned every day, which helped keep the small space organized.
Very good location — near many lines for the underground and close to the British Museum. Friendly staff and quaint accommodations. They were also able to keep our luggage for many hours after checkout while we toured the city.
The staff were nice and as much as possible were helpful. They moved me to a quieter room once they could. Location is quite good! Close to British Museum, Tottenham Court Tube station and short taxi to Kings Cross Station.
Location is good right next to British museum. Good links one stop and 5 mins walk from kings cross st pancras stations.
