This is great we found less crowds in the early evening (which makes for good photos as well). Also it is worth noting it doesn't actually stop for getting on and off, (it doesn't go fast), but handy to know if you are old or have little kids.
Pay extra to avoid the queue. We had bought tix, but didn’t pay to avoid the queue, thinking it wasn’t necessary bc of timed tix. However, just-let-out school kids overwhelmed the line & made it impossibly long so we couldn’t get in before closing.
When you want a good view over London this is the place to go. You can't see the whole city, but a large part of it. Even when you are afraid of heights this is an attraction for you. And there is airconditioning in it, which was nice on the very hot day we visited it.
Pay the bit extra to upgrade your ticket to the VIP pass (I think it cost us an extra £20 on our family of four ticket) & download the QR code to your smartphone we visited on a sunny Saturday afternoon & instead of having to queue to collect tickets then join the massive queue for the eye which was approximately 45 mins when we were there we walked up joined a separate queue had our code scanned & were on the attraction within 15 minutes it was most definitely worth the bit extra we paid.
We went on a boat cruise of the Thames on NYE and we watched the fireworks on the Eye. The cruise was OK not great and very cramped with terrible food. However the vibe was good and its the best spot for the countdown
We decided last minute not to pay extra for skip the lane and we got in within 5 minutes. It didn't take long at all!! Well if you don't mind a small wait time. Check how busy it is before you pay extra is my tip! May not be busy at all.
Mix up in the beginning with the rooms was unfortunate as I had children with me but it was sorted out quickly enough which I really do appreciate. Family room was big enough and WIFI was decent. Location was brilliant, we booked the London eye and were able to walk there in a few minutes. Lovely area and felt very safe. The breakfast was really good and the coffee was lovely. Will definitely stay again.
Stayed in the Wellington for three nights the staff are very friendly and helpful, the hotel room is very clean and comfortable. It is so close to all the main tourist attractions 5 minute walk to the London eye and if you enjoy walking you can walk to Big Ben and Buckingham palace easily and if not the underground is right across the road from hotel. Will definitely be staying there again if In London.
Great room, great views, walkable to the Waterloo train station, Big Ben, London Eye, Westminster and much more. Staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean and very comfortable for three people. They provided two twin beds and a pull out couch that was already made prior to our arrival. The rooms overall were great for the location and the price.
The hotel is in a great location for sightseeing - both walking and easy access to the Underground. The room overlooked the London Eye and Parliament and was super clean and comfortable. The bed and duvet were excellent and it was hard to step out of the amazing waterfall shower.
The Location is just awesome, just a short walk to Borough Market and the London Bridge. Also to the London Eye and Waterloo Station it is just a short walk. A bus stop is right in front the Hotel. Breakfast was really good and high in quality. The coffee was the best. I LIKE!
Clean. Neat. Very close to amenities. London eye right out the back door. Waterloo station so close. Next door to costa, pret, coop and Sainsbury’s. absolute bargain price! Would recommend for hotel on a budget
I bought tickets in advance because in 2014 they started charging to see the London Eye fireworks. I got there around 7PM with my friends and there were so many people getting in! Took me a while to get past the place they check your tickets but after you pass that you get plenty of time and space to settle. The fireworks were beautiful. To anyone planning to spend the NYE in London: bring food, water and get a good spot as soon as you can. You're probably only going to be able to leave the area around 1AM anyway. The subways stay open until late but they also get super crowded with people heading back home.
I would recommend the combination of attractions, and to book in advance. The London Eye was an amazing experience, the London Dungeons & Madame Tussaud's. The SeaLife Aquarium was good & we were able to casually walk around in there.
The main attractions can be seen and information gained from different types of tours from the London Eye and City Bus Tours to digital audio yours within different individual attractions visited.
