Amazing history with Kings and Queen's buried here from Edward the Confessor on and many famous people. One of those places that I wonder why I never visited earlier and have been back several times since to wonder in the history.
Never entered the Abbey ever since the shocking introduction of expensive entrance fees to this ancient House of God! Been inside three or four times - a truly fantastic place to view tombs of royals of the distant past!
We wanted to do the tour but the line was ridiculous, even in December. So we walked around and found the Abbey store. Lots of cute souvenirs. Then we asked about a nearby cafe and were told there is one in the Abbey. Just around the corner from the gift store you enter the courtyard. You may have to ask security for more directions but it is worth the trouble. The cafe had very reasonable prices. After leaving the restaurant you can see (without waiting in the giant line) the Coronation room and Coronation Chair. Although it was not a full tour of the Abbey we had a great experience without the line.
They are very strict about no photography in churches, including (perhaps especially) Westminster. We went to evensong service, which was lovely, and saved us admission; but in the future I plan to do the Verger tour.
Probably one of my favorite places to visit in London. The first time I was there, I was in a tour group. This time I took my time and was able to really look at everything at a more leisurely pace. It was much as I had remembered although parts are less accessible these days. Well worth spending several hours here!
Photography is no longer allowed, which is a primary reason I would not pay the admission price. But, go to a daily 5 pm Mass for free and still see the inside of the Abbey, a few tombs, hear the Boys Choir and the Organ. There are often free concerts during the day also, usually Tuesday's.
The location was pretty good. It's about a 5 minute walk to Earl's Court station and then 16 minute travel with the underground to Westminster Abbey. Breakfast was also really good. (Although a bit weird that there was free coffee and a paid coffee machine.) The bed was pretty tolerable.
location- very central: 5 minutes from london eye and the aquarium, shrek, the dungeon 7min from westminster abbey and the perfect st. james park. and many more there is also a guard all the time at the entrance. room service with tasty and fresh food.
The location is perfect. 3 minutes from Westminster Abbey and 10 minutes from Buckingham Palace. Breakfast is served in an intimate and cozy restaurant, and the food is good and diverse
Don't have to queue up to enter Westminster Abbey for £18 you can get in there for free. But London generally is very expensive
There are many beautiful churches, but Saint Paul Cathedral and Westminster Abbey are fantastic.
