The Mercantile Hotel is across from Dublin Castle, minutes from the vibrant Temple Bar and fantastic shopping on Grafton Street. Allesandra at the front desk was wonderful and made me feel at home right away.
Templebar is great fun and has soon great live music. But you pay for the privilege a whopping 30% - 50% more then anywhere else in Dublin. My advise to tourist is see it but explore even one street over and you'll see the real Dublin and your wallet will thank you too. Templebar pints€7-8 vs €5 elsewhere in Dublin, spirit & mixer €12 vs €7 elsewhere in Dublin.
Everyone told us to visit Temple bar so we initially assumed "tourist trap" BUT that was not the case! The music was nonstop and awesome, the Guiness was fresh and delicious and the whole crowd would sing and dance constantly. Made us feel like we were truly Irish!
Take walk through the area, listen to the street musicians, then move on. This is the over priced tourist trap in Dublin. We found great food, music, and people in the rest of the city without looking very hard.
Great fun but I had a way different experience over St. Patty's day than I had 5 years ago with my girlfriend. The nightlife during a holiday could get a little out of control. Be smart, watch your drinks and be safe!! Elephant & Castle is one of the few decent late night restaurants in Temple bar for a great meal that is not junk fast food!! Also there is a Mediterranean place across from Bad Bob's if you eat falafel and shawarma!
Busy and noisy but typical atmosphere. Live music was good. I was there over a Blues festival weekend . Irish traditional music is always heard. It is what the tourists look for! Decent food, menu was simple yet varied and appropriate. Service was good, a bit slow when very busy.
If you want to avoid stags - head in around lunch time and avoid at night. Also if you want to head out for the night it is fairly expensive and there are better places off Grafon street or around baggot street.

Great location in the Temple Bar area of Dublin, within walking distance of Trinity College plus many shops, pubs, and restaurants. Staff were very friendly and helpful - we had included breakfast with our 2 nights' stay through Booking.com, but then decided to cancel the 2nd one; both Booking.com and the hotel desk staff made this pretty easy. Great Irish breakfast next to the hotel (but too much food two days in a row!). :) Enjoyed the 2-bedroom apartment for our two-couple stay. Handy parking right around the corner.

The hostel could be better, the bedrooms could have better sheets, blankets and curtains in the windows (they all looked pretty old), it could also have curtains in the beds to give each person more privacy. The best part was the staff (all very nice and friendly) and the size of the lockers inside the bedroom were great. The location wasn't bad either, 18-25 min to Temple Bar, Dublinia and St. Patrick's Church, by feet. Breakfast is simple but good considering the fact that it is free.

The hotel was in a great location! Very close walk to the Temple Bar area and anything you'd need to see in Dublin city center. The breakfast was amazing - highly recommend getting a rate that includes breakfast, otherwise it's 15EUR each. Espresso machine in the room which was wonderful, and a great lobby and bar. While the rates are a little pricey, I do believe it's worth it!

This is our second stay at the hotel and it is consistently excellent. You can't beat the location, at the edge of the Temple Bar area, and within easy walking distance of many tourist attractions. The bus shuttle directly from the airport drops you off a short walk away and the price is right for a hotel in the heart of Dublin. We will definitely stay here again.

The property felt very secure. The location, outside the hustle and bustle of Temple Bar and Trinity College but within newer developments in the Docklands is excellent. Free parking is worth its weight in gold in cities like Dublin. Although the apartment is small, it's still bigger than an equivalent hotel room and for two people, a much cheaper alternative.

We stayed for 2 nights. The hotel was in a perfect location, close to shops and the temple bar area. I was most expressed when we were receiving emails about the Pope coming to Dublin, which we didn’t know at the time we booked this vacation. So it was nice to be prepared. I would definitely recommend this hotel and booking.com.

Great location in Temple Bar area of Dublin. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean apartments.
walking the city, the pubs in the Temple Bar district, Guinness tour, and we took a bus tour to the Cliffs of Moher, fantastic day long tour with a fascinating guide
Book your hotel outside of the Temple Bar region - nice to enjoy while you're awake, not if you're trying to sleep
Visiting neighbourhoods such as the Temple Bar area especially on Saturdays with the food and craft markets
Dublin is a medium-size city so I would suggest to walk between the Temple Bar district, city centre and e.g. Phoenix Park. The walk between the PP and the centre should be 30-40 min one way for a moderate walker.
The temple bar Is really good place for drinking and dancing
All the bars in the temple bar area have live music. Traditional and modern. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with friendly bar staff too. Wonderful place for everyone
