Dona Palace is a 4-star boutique hotel 2 minutes' walk from Saint Mark's Square in central Venice. We loved staying at Hotel Dona Palace. The location is absolutely perfect.
You can enter the Bridge of sighs and see where the prisoners were held by visiting the Doge's palace. Entrance fee: 25eurosr You will need to leave your backpack in a clockroom as you are not allowed being it with you - no charge Well worth the visit!
The bridge of sighs was beautiful but sooo crowded you could barely move somewhat ruining what should be a great experience. Definitely need to limit tourist numbers. There were five cruise ships in town the weekend I was there are it really split Venice for me
Interesting and worth a look. Google the history of it before you go there and you will have a greater appreciation of its history. There are a lot of little souvenir tents - like a little mini market and reasonably priced. Can try and negotiate a small reduction in price but don't be too surprised if the seller refuses to budge on their price.
Doge’s palace phenomenal. Scale of art is amazing. Very helpful to get a guide beforehand (or sign up for a tour) as the signage doesn’t tell you all that much. As far as the bridge itself, not that special...until you think about the poor souls who were traveling over it to their incarceration or worse.
I love history so knowing that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice through the window before being taken down to their cells I found it fascinating and sad at the same time and had to see it.
The maps are not very good and trying to get around using google maps does not work. I downloaded a map from the internet which was better. Also look up for yellow sings when walking the streets which give you directions in the shape of an arrow.
The hotel exceeded my expectations...the service was top notch, the view from our Jr. Suite with Canal View was amazing, the breakfast (we paid for it as an add on) had enough variety for every taste. The location is incredible... literary 2 min to St. Mark's, and we could see the Bridge of sighs when leaning out the window.
Castello, Venice
The location was excellent with a superb view of the Bridge of Sighs from the living room. The layout offered a lot of space and all of the rooms were light and airy. The restaurant next door, Calle 21, was outstanding with great food and drink , reasonable prices and a wonderful host.
The location was great. Within walking distance to St. Mark's square, the Rialto Bride, the Bridge of Sighs and all the major fashion stores to buy handbags.
