The first 4 floors are just museum floors - art, history of the castle, etc. If you just want to see the incredible panoramic view at the top get in the line for the elevator which skips those middle floors and goes to the 5th. Otherwise you will have to climb all the flight of stairs regardless if you want to see what's on them. Get there early though - the elevator line gets very long very quickly and the entrance line is just as bad. People start queuing up in line before it even opens.Sophia - Scored 6.06.0

The main part of the castle is closed and completely covered by scaffolding. There was no discount to the ticket or real acknowledgement of this at the entrance to the castle, so we felt pretty bamboozled by the time we walked in. It was a heck of a disappointment. The other sections of the grounds that were open were amazing, so I'm sure we would have loved the castle if we could go in it. The plum blossoms were also starting to bloom and they were stunning.

And Gion and old town are walking distance from both end of market and end of Main Shijo-Dori street.
