The front desk staff were very accommodating & warm. We love the Japanese hospitality & honesty. The rooms are very clean & I like that there’s a-self service laundry. We also like the location, it’s in a quiet area, you can really feel the Kyoto vibe. I cannot miss mentioning how grateful we are of the staff who were in charge of our room. We admire their honesty. I dropped my purse containing part of our allowance for the entire trip & when we returned it was left where it was. Thank you so much! This will be our choice of hotel the next time we visit Kyoto.

Walking through the palace interior was very interesting as it was unlike anything we’d seen before!
The surrounding grounds contained beautifully landscaped gardens and a cafe in the style of a Japanese tea house.

You can purchase tickets for Nijo Castle online and do remember to take the full package which includes the tour of the palace (sorry, can't remember what it's called) which housed the Daimyo back then and has since been maintained. Very nice historical trip!

I think Nijo Castle is a beautiful and fascinating place to visit. It is one of the best-preserved examples of a Japanese castle, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The castle is known for its ornate architecture and its beautiful gardens.
I particularly enjoyed seeing the Ninomaru Goten Palace, which is the main building in the castle. The palace is full of beautiful paintings and sculptures, and it gives a glimpse into the life of the shoguns, the military rulers of Japan during the Edo period.
I also enjoyed walking through the Ninomaru Garden, which is a beautiful Japanese garden with ponds, waterfalls, and stone lanterns. The garden is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Kyoto.
Overall, I think Nijo Castle is a must-see for anyone visiting Kyoto. It is a beautiful and fascinating place to learn about the history and culture of Japan.
Here are some additional thoughts about Nijo Castle:
The castle is located in a convenient location in Kyoto, and it is easy to get to by public transportation.
There is a lot to see and do at the castle, including the Ninomaru Goten Palace, the Ninomaru Garden, and various other buildings and exhibits.
The castle is well-preserved and well-maintained.
The staff at the castle is friendly and helpful.
I highly recommend a visit to Nijo Castle if you are looking for a beautiful and informative experience in Kyoto.

The first 4 floors are just museum floors - art, history of the castle, etc. If you just want to see the incredible panoramic view at the top get in the line for the elevator which skips those middle floors and goes to the 5th. Otherwise you will have to climb all the flight of stairs regardless if you want to see what's on them. Get there early though - the elevator line gets very long very quickly and the entrance line is just as bad. People start queuing up in line before it even opens.

The main part of the castle is closed and completely covered by scaffolding. There was no discount to the ticket or real acknowledgement of this at the entrance to the castle, so we felt pretty bamboozled by the time we walked in. It was a heck of a disappointment. The other sections of the grounds that were open were amazing, so I'm sure we would have loved the castle if we could go in it. The plum blossoms were also starting to bloom and they were stunning.

Perfect upscale luxury rooms and the nicest Staff (who also spoke English). No problem holding our bags too. Great location, 5 minutes to subway and Nijo Castle. Quiet neighborhood too. Our first choice when we return.
Using the Japanese bathroom dryer was a experience. Great to see how Japanese compact everything into a small apartment to get you everything you need. It is also close to the Kyoto Station, Gion District, Nijo Castle, also udon noddle spot across the street from the corner of the hotel, and other Kyoto attraction/tourist spot is very close by too.
Great location near Nijo Castle and with a bus stop just beside. Good public bath, excellent value breakfast (cheaper through booking.com). Clean, comfortable and modern rooms, big enough by Japanese standards. We originally booked 4 nights and extended our stay by 2 nights- also cheaper to extend using booking.com (!!) - so much to see in Kyoto and around!
We paid $75 per night including breakfast for the second booking (a little over $100/night for the first booking), excellent value.
It was a very spacious and well-equipped place with a small garden and traditional and western furnishings. The hotel is on a quiet street near a subway station and in walking distance of the Imperial Palace and Nijo Castle. Check if the location works for you.The hostess was very helpful.
The location is awesome to visit the Nijo castle and Gion on foot (among others) and it's also close to the Kyoto train station. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was ok, not the best but enough options available. Nice little self-service "store" to get snacks.
A beautifully-renovated traditional Japanese home located conveniently near Nijo castle! The neighborhood is peaceful, the rooms and beds are comfortable, and the hosts are incredibly helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend staying here!
Breakfast was good. Not a whole of choices either that is set in a Japanese bento box.
The bus stop number 50 is right outside hotel that takes you to the nightingale castle (Nijo Castle). Hotel is a a feet from the main street of Shijo-Dori street, running parallel to the Main Street, a block to the North is Nishiki -Komi market. And Gion and old town are walking distance from both end of market and end of Main Shijo-Dori street.
We were pleased with the location - on a small quiet street but steps away from a major road with restaurants, convenience store, and taxis. The hotel is centrally located near Nishiki Market and Nijo Castle. The staff is both professional and friendly. All speak some English, and some are quite fluent. They will make reservations and arrangements for you. The rooms are modern and comfortable, and the spa is very nice.
