Hotel in Old City Sultanahmet, Istanbul
Conveniently set in the center of Istanbul, Shining Star Hotel provides continental breakfast and free WiFi throughout the property. the staff was phenomenal and was always around to answer questions or play with my kid.
its such a disappointment that when I visited Hagia Sophia in 2019, it was a monument and now it has been converted to a operating mosque. in fact it looks like that this great country, which was built by great leader like Kamal Ata Turk with its liberal traditions, is getting more fundamental. as a monument too, since there are restrictions on visiting hours, it was disappointing.
We didn't get to visit inside. The lines in the daytime (no matter what day!) were incredibly long. Website said it was open 24/7, but when we went at 10 pm it was closed. They should update their online info.
An almost permanent 2-hour queue to get in, especially when the Walking Tours arrive from Lunchtime onwards. We went independently, and queued from 08:30 to 09:15 to get in (it opens at 09:00, and is free admission). Worth it if you go early.
You must remove your shoes before entering and ladies need a head scarf. It’s free to enter, I think if you read up on the history and interesting facts about the location prior to entering, you’ll be covered. No organized tour needed in my opinion.
It is a magnificent place but has lost some of its charm since it was reverted from museum to religious site. It is now extremely busy and there appears little regard for the holiness of the site. Perhaps try to go very early, might be more rewarding.
The beauty of this place left me breathless and feeling deeply spiritual, and I'm not a spiritual person. The history is fascinating and more people should know the significance of this place for the last 1500 years.
From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel at home. The breakfast is exceptional, with a simply amazing view. Our room (the Junior Suite) was perfect. We were celebrating a birthday, so I'd arranged the birthday package - and our room came decorated with balloons, flowers and a delicious cake. The hotel is perfectly situated within walking distance of the Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, but it's also easy to get away from the tourist crowds and escape into local markets. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
The location is EXCEPTIONAL! A lot of great restos right across specially Khorasani. Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern are all walking distance. The staff were unbelievably patient and kind! Specially Fatma (Guest Relations Officer) - she even messaged to make sure we're home safe. So thoughtful! My son left something in the resto and we all thought he lost it - but the lady in the resto held it for safekeeping and gave it to us when we returned to the hotel. AWESOME STAFF!!! The hammam in the hotel was great!
Breakfast was great to begin a day full of activities. A wonderful and always helpful staff, Umut, Sezer Bey, Fatid, Ismael, the young blonde girl, All of them were great to me and my wife, We stayed twice, before and after our cruise. They treat people like family. The hotel is well located, steps from Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, it's in the middle of everything and it has fantastic views of Istanbul and Hagia Sophia but he human beings that run the hotel are the best asset of this facility.
The hotel staff Cemil and Atalay were most helpful and polite with all our needs. The politeness of all the staff were topnotch. We enjoyed talking and getting to know Cemil and Atalay, these two are huge asset to this hotel. The location was great, within walking distance to sites and great restaurants in the old town. Our views of the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia were spectacular from our room and the rooftop. Thank you for a lovely stay in Istanbul.
The staff were lovely and helpful. They gave us a free upgrade. We went for breakfast every morning on the rooftop with nice views and they indulged me in making special iced americanos. The location was quite walkable to many sites (we walked to many shops, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkani Museum, Tasmin Square, Gramd Bazaar, Spice Bazaar, etc), and the hotel arranged two way transfer for airport. Our room was clean and comfortable.
Hotel is slightly hard to find when you first arrive in Istanbul -- the entrance is obscured by vegetation on a hilly road not accessible by cars. But once you get oriented, it's just a 5-10 minute walk to the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosques and very close to the tram that can take you to other parts of the city. Free breakfast on the roof was very good, and the views of the water were great.
The breakfast that was included was the best we had in 10 days in Turkey. The offerings were second to none. The top floor breakfast location had an amazing view. The hotel is a prime location to visit the major sites of Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkati Palace. All within 5 minutes walking. The staff was top notch and very helpful; with recommendations.
The hotel is located very near to Hagia Sophia Mosque and is in a quite locality which makes it a great choice for your stay in Istanbul. All major attractions are either walking distance away and the area is well connected with various public transport options as well which made it really convenient to travel around and explore the city.
The hotels decor, breakfast, staff, everything was really nice. The location of the hotel was also really convenient as it was walking distance from most of the tourist attractions like the Hagia Sophia, the Sultan Ahmet Mosque, and the Topkapi Palace. It is also walking distance from the tram.
This was a great jumping off point for exploring Istanbul! The hotel is only a couple minutes walk to the Hagia Sophia and many restaurants and cafes. We had a comfy, well furnished room and had a great Turkish breakfast in the morning. Would recommend!
Blue Mosque & Hagia Sofia are both jaw droppingly stunning inside. Avoid the huge tour group queues & go straight to the top of the line, else you'll wait for hours. I was in (in both places), in 10 minutes without being pushy.
Lots of people everywhere and fantastic food. Having the Turkish bath experience is not to be missed. Called a "Hamam", the recently renovated hamam between the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosk is second to none.
Getting a museum card or looking for ticket kiosks (especially in the enterance of Hagia Sofia and Topkapı Palace) will let you pass hundreds of people in line waiting to get a ticket.
Just imagine the city lived for four imperials! Here is a lot of history on every corner. Visit Hagia Sofia to understand how the world was divided to different churches and so on...
we gave in and got the 2 day hop on hop off big bus - as we kept getting lost. Everyone seems to go to the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace early but we found after lunch a lot quieter. if I - no when I go again I will definitely get a 3 day pass so no queuing. Must do a Bosphorus cruise
