It breaks my heart how they didn't preserve old Hagia and it was turned into this. It feels quite empty with animals running around, people selling goods like in market. It doesn't feel like worship place.
Hagia Sophia is the former Greek Orthodox Christian patriarchal cathedral, later an Ottoman imperial mosque and now a museum in Istanbul, Turkey. Built in 537 AD at the beginning of the Middle Ages, it was famous in particular for its massive dome. One of mu favorite places visited in Istanbul. Amazing architectural masterpiece of Byzantine architecture style.
This is a MUST!!! The Hagia Sophia is sooooo impressive! You stand in there, on the 0 point of the world and you feel how huge and amazing this museum is. You see and feel the history and everything this building has been through and you are just speechless! That's at least how I felt :-)
Parts of the museum under restoration but still good to visit, very interesting mosaic and rich in history. Ladies make sure you wear good walking shoes as the stoned pathway leading to the 2nd level can be slippery and steep but with every effort of the climb!

My favourite place ever!! Must see! I advise if your trip is short, to start your day early and make hagia sophia and blue mosque and topkapi and basilica sisterna then go to grand bazar (as they are all in the same area). Also ask for the museums card that you can buy and that allows you to visit multiple sites and museums as it becoms cheaper than oaying entrance fee at every place. I bought one for a very cheap price and it was for 3 days.
Location is exceptional: just 5 minutes walk from the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast overlooking the sea was extremely pleasant! The stay at the Blue Mosque is different from other hotels in that it is a more homely experience, instead of just being another consumer / guest in a hotel. What really made a difference to me was the kindness of the owner, Mr. Kubilay. I stayed at 3 other hotels during my trip and in none I was treated so well. Thanks again for the hospitality!
The hostel is located right in the city and you can get to a lot of sights within 5 minutes (Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia). The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and the staff is super friendly and helpful whenever you need something. The free breakfast is really good as well (Continental breakfast, coffee, tea etc.). Overall Nobel Hostel offers great value for money and I would definitely recommend staying there if you're traveling on a budget or just don't want to spend a ton for the large hotel chains.
Excellent and quite location in the heart of old down (3 minutes by walk to Hagia Sophia and to Blue Mosque.). 100 steps to tram... Staff was friendly and helpful. My assistant booked different date by mistake, it was a surprise at the reception but hotel staff contacted with booking.com and changed dates. Rooms are not very big but comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was good as well. Most important part, hotel staff was very careful about covid restrictions. So i was happy about my stay.
The breakfast was phenomenal, an amazing spread of food. The breakfast staff was very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was great! The metro/tram is very close and all the attractions are relatively close by. Realistically, most places are within walking distance (Hagia Sophia, The Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace Museum, Galata Tower, and many more). The hotel staff are extremely accommodating and are really friendly. I am so happy to have stayed in this beautiful hotel.
The hotel is located in the heart of Sultanahmet with the metro just being 50 to 100 meter away and all big attractions of Istanbul within walking distance. The breakfast spread is decent if not amazing and is served on the terrace with an exceptional view of blue mosque, Hagia Sophia, city palace etc. There are lots of options to eat near the hotel too. The receptionist was also very helpful in making us understand the attractions and how best can we go about it.
This hotel is in an ideal location. Quick access to all the shops and tourist attractions like hagia sophia, blue mosque, topkapi palace are all within walking distance. Also within walking distance is the Grand bazaar and a train station should you want to wander further out. We did however spend most of our time in the area of the hotel as it offers all you would look for istanbul
Breakfast was very good and during my stay, Ramadan started so they arranged Sahur for us included in the cost. Staff was very helpful. The hotel is in the middle of Sultanahmet, near Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque which are around less than 0.5 kilometers from the hotel. There are very nice shopping places for tourists and great restaurants nearby.
it is a great hotel. all of the stuff can speak English very well and they are really polite. the hotel is really nice and clean. the hotel is located in a really good and historical area which is near to the Hagia Sophia and topkapi palace. the see view room are great and have a very great view. highly recomended.
Hotel has excellent view on Hagia Sophia anc citylandmark. Its also very near main city atractions so You dont need to use city transportation wich is also very near (Tram L1).The rooms are comfortable and breakfast was also better than the most hotel I have been in Istanbul. Staff very nice.
olivia hotel was excellent they were family hotel and so kind. reception sukru was very kind person. it is very close too hagia sophia and blue mosque. If i go again istanbul i will definetely stay there. i will sure recommend all my friends. Thank you soo much oliva hotel
Blue Mosque & Hagia Sofia are both jaw droppingly stunning inside. Avoid the huge tour group queues & go straight to the top of the line, else you'll wait for hours. I was in (in both places), in 10 minutes without being pushy.
Lots of people everywhere and fantastic food. Having the Turkish bath experience is not to be missed. Called a "Hamam", the recently renovated hamam between the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosk is second to none.
Getting a museum card or looking for ticket kiosks (especially in the enterance of Hagia Sofia and Topkapı Palace) will let you pass hundreds of people in line waiting to get a ticket.
Just imagine the city lived for four imperials! Here is a lot of history on every corner. Visit Hagia Sofia to understand how the world was divided to different churches and so on...
we gave in and got the 2 day hop on hop off big bus - as we kept getting lost. Everyone seems to go to the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace early but we found after lunch a lot quieter. if I - no when I go again I will definitely get a 3 day pass so no queuing. Must do a Bosphorus cruise
