As an Australian we were not allowed to tour the White House as our consulate are too lazy to apply for us. Americans have to apply through their congressman for permission so be aware that you just cannot turn up and request a tour like they do in the movies.!
Cool to see, but they no longer allow you to go up close to the gated fence. They now force you to the other side of the street onto a narrow crowded walkway so the experience is nothing like it used to be. :(
Now It's impossible to get close to the White House, if you have a good camera you can get the same picture from the National Mall (Washington Monument) as if you walk all the way The Ellipse garden, because you have the same view, The Ellipse its crowded and you have to try to take the picture when nobody passes
We got there early but was getting crowded by the time we left. Such history and photos you must get tickets to get in and not at the door. I wrote my congressman it took awhile to get an answer and you won't know your day or time until about 2 weeks before your trip. Worth it.
Lots of people visiting that day but it wasn't what we see on TV we were more up-close-and-personal looking through the vents seeing the fountain seeing people work on the White House doing their jobs
The White House has a lot of history behind it. I encourage everyone to know its story and request an invite to walk into the grand home. Not only is it a place where our President resides but also where important decisions are made. It makes me proud that I am an American!
The location of this hotel is absolutely ideal. It very literally has has a Metro station directly below it at Farrugut West. It is also just a few blocks directly north of the White House. Farragut Square park is directly across the street, and there are many food options around the whole area. It is also within very reasonable walking distance of the National Mall and everything surrounding it. The beds were also very comfortable.
The hotel is convenient for those wishing to be close to the White House and other D.C. attractions. For those in good health, walking from the hotel to most D.C. attractions is doable. The facility itself has a rather cozy vibe, and the valet person seemed especially helpful and friendly. The two double-bed suite provided ample room for two travelers, and the beds were comfortable. Overall the place was clean and felt welcoming.
The hotel is in a very good location, within walking distance to the White House, about 20 minutes walking from the Mall, with all the incredible museums Washington has to offer. If you like a moderate walk, Georgetown is also close. The staff is very nice. The apartment/room is huge, with very comfortable beds.
We liked the location and proximity to the national mall, cleanness of our room and the facility, and the hotel paid parking package. We were able to walk to all attractions on the mall and to the White House. Additional, DC day and night tour packages are available for guest if they prefer a guided tour.
The location was excellent, walking distance from the White House, the Washington Monument and the museums. The room was comfortable and clean, and the staff was really friendly. It's also great that it has an elevator. The hotel could use a face lift, but it's great value for money.
The location in DC was great - a couple blocks from The White House and The Mall, but not touristy. Having a lot of space was great. The apartment was a bit too warm for us but we were out a lot and it was Thanksgiving week. We had a great value and would stay here again.
The location is exceptional, in walking distance to the White House and Mall. The hotel has an old charm but is fresh and kept in excellent condition. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the price is very affordable. Restaurant is also delicious.
The room was clean and we had plenty of towels. The location of the hotel was also great, right next to the White House. The train was just a 5 minute walk from the hotel as well.
Great location (not far from The White House and Georgetown) Hotel and the room are clean and tidy. Staff was welcoming and very helpful
The location is right by the white house, easy walking to the monuments. The hotel is clean.
2nd visit in late November/early December & great time to visit. Winter sunshine & no crowds. Lovely walk from White House to Arlington Cemetery taking in various memorials en route. Similarly Tidal Basin Walk.
Go early. You want to be queueing for the Washington Monument at 7AM, tickets available at 8:30, if you get there any later than 8:30 they'll be gone for the day. You can book in advance, but often it has to be a long way in advance. Also things like Ford Theatre and Holocaust Memorial Museum arrive early and queue, and if you want photos of attractions go early. I got a photo outside the White House of just me at 7:45AM, by 10:00AM it was packed and you couldn't get a good whole body whole house photo without hoards of other people, so go early for memorial photos and tickets.
