Cool to see, but they no longer allow you to go up close to the gated fence. They now force you to the other side of the street onto a narrow crowded walkway so the experience is nothing like it used to be. :(
Now It's impossible to get close to the White House, if you have a good camera you can get the same picture from the National Mall (Washington Monument) as if you walk all the way The Ellipse garden, because you have the same view, The Ellipse its crowded and you have to try to take the picture when nobody passes
We got there early but was getting crowded by the time we left. Such history and photos you must get tickets to get in and not at the door. I wrote my congressman it took awhile to get an answer and you won't know your day or time until about 2 weeks before your trip. Worth it.
Lots of people visiting that day but it wasn't what we see on TV we were more up-close-and-personal looking through the vents seeing the fountain seeing people work on the White House doing their jobs
The White House has a lot of history behind it. I encourage everyone to know its story and request an invite to walk into the grand home. Not only is it a place where our President resides but also where important decisions are made. It makes me proud that I am an American!
Since you cannot get close to it, you will only be able to take pics with the White House in the background from afar. It will take you two mins tops. We had high expectations, so when we got there we were massively disappointed.
We were able to check in earlier and even got another room (bunk bed instead of queen size) upon arrival without extra costs. That suited us perfectly since we traveled with large suitcases. The staff was also really nice and helpful. It only takes you around 15 min by foot to reach the white house and a metro station is in 2 min walking distance. We also really liked the rooftop bar and the area around the Hotel. I will definitely stay there agin if I ever come back to DC.
We had a corner room with a couch area beside the two queen beds. The room was a really nice size for the three of us (a couple & a 16 year old son). The location of the hotel was excellent. 2 blocks from the metro, the White House was a quick walk away and there was always a cab around to be flagged down when we needed. The hotel staff was really nice and accommodating. The breakfast had enough variety that we were all happy.
When I say I HATE TO LEAVE!!!! Beautiful property with VERY spacious suites, and the front desk staff were SUPERB BEYOND FANTASTIC. The rooms were clean with great furniture. We LITERALLY were located maybe 5 minutes from the White House which was an added bonus. Out of all the cities and hotels Ive stayed in, AKA White House DC is in one of the top 2. THANK YOU. SO VERY MUCH!!!!
The whole hotel was clean and had a modern feel. The room felt very secure and private/quiet for a large city. Location was great we walked to the White House! The shower was awesome with lots of water pressure and hand held adjustable head. Queen bed was very comfortable. Probably because of COVID there was not heavy traffic around the area.
Due to COVID19 restrictions, there was no breakfast provided in the hotel. It was not a problem for us as there are few cafe/restourants close to the hotel. Hotel is located just walking distance aways (1.3 miles) from the White House, it was very convenient for us.
Close to the white house but it's very barricaded. So it's hard to visit. Loved the White House Center nearby and got a great massage at Bliss (Washington Hotel) nearby.
This hotel is in an excellent location about a 10 min walk to the White House and very close to dining areas to eat, the neighborhood is clean and very nice.
I liked that the hotel was close to the White House and the Capitol and we were able to navigate through the city with ease.
Rooms have old hotel feel but the place was very clean. Price was very nice and just a short walk to the White House!
2nd visit in late November/early December & great time to visit. Winter sunshine & no crowds. Lovely walk from White House to Arlington Cemetery taking in various memorials en route. Similarly Tidal Basin Walk.
Go early. You want to be queueing for the Washington Monument at 7AM, tickets available at 8:30, if you get there any later than 8:30 they'll be gone for the day. You can book in advance, but often it has to be a long way in advance. Also things like Ford Theatre and Holocaust Memorial Museum arrive early and queue, and if you want photos of attractions go early. I got a photo outside the White House of just me at 7:45AM, by 10:00AM it was packed and you couldn't get a good whole body whole house photo without hoards of other people, so go early for memorial photos and tickets.
