Cool to see, but they no longer allow you to go up close to the gated fence. They now force you to the other side of the street onto a narrow crowded walkway so the experience is nothing like it used to be. :(
Now It's impossible to get close to the White House, if you have a good camera you can get the same picture from the National Mall (Washington Monument) as if you walk all the way The Ellipse garden, because you have the same view, The Ellipse its crowded and you have to try to take the picture when nobody passes
We got there early but was getting crowded by the time we left. Such history and photos you must get tickets to get in and not at the door. I wrote my congressman it took awhile to get an answer and you won't know your day or time until about 2 weeks before your trip. Worth it.
Lots of people visiting that day but it wasn't what we see on TV we were more up-close-and-personal looking through the vents seeing the fountain seeing people work on the White House doing their jobs
The White House has a lot of history behind it. I encourage everyone to know its story and request an invite to walk into the grand home. Not only is it a place where our President resides but also where important decisions are made. It makes me proud that I am an American!
Since you cannot get close to it, you will only be able to take pics with the White House in the background from afar. It will take you two mins tops. We had high expectations, so when we got there we were massively disappointed.
Wonderful breakfast bar each morning with a huge variety of items to choose from. Fantastic service by the women who staff the breakfast area. I appreciated the scrambled eggs each morning, fresh fruit, yogurt and good coffee. Was surprised at the other items from pastries and breaks to cereals. Our room was comfortable with a great bed, nice bathroom, roomy living/kitchenette. The proximity of the hotel to the Metro and its walkability to the White House and to good restaurants was excellent.
The hotel is nicely located in a quiet area. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby, the White House and The Mall are in easy walking distance, same applies for Georgetown which is perfect for some shopping. You also have a VCS Pharmacy and a Whole Foods market just a few meters from the Hotel. The staff has been always very friendly and supportive, the rooms have been clean and very cosy and the bathrooms were spacious and clean. You get a safe in the room.
The location was central and a good walk to most of the attractions including the White House. Henry, one of the staff members redeemed the hotel. Without his service and consideration, the overall experience would have been horrid. He shared very valuable counsel and provided assistance where it mattered most. He really was welcoming and willing to assist.
This hotel was perfect for my quick weekend getaway. It was centrally located to all the DC attractions. It was especially close to the White House and offered a quick walk to see our nation's capital. There is also a Starbuck's almost directly across the street and a fantastic bar inside the hotel.
This hotel was convenient to the White House. We booked it because we had a (reserved through out Congressperson) morning tour of the White House and didn't want to do a long drive and potentially miss our spot. We were able to walk easily to the White House and felt safe in the neighborhood.
The location was awesome - right by the White House and walkable to everything. The apartment was spacious and met my expectations. Everything was clean and in working order. Not fancy, but just what we were looking for and a good value. Great coffee shop right next door (Zeke's)
The hotel is in a great location as it's right near the White House. If you are looking for a lively place to party, this is the hotel for you. Unfortunately, that is the only positive comment that I can make about my stay at the Hotel Washington.
This hotel is the go to for me everytime I visit DC. Big enough rooms with a big bathroom to go with it and in a great location in between metro stops and close to the white house. The bed was also very comfortable.
the location is amazing. Near the white house, and not far away from the national mall. The hotel is clean and it has a nice staff.
The location was great. It was a few minutes from the White House. The hotel offered breakfast which was pretty good.
2nd visit in late November/early December & great time to visit. Winter sunshine & no crowds. Lovely walk from White House to Arlington Cemetery taking in various memorials en route. Similarly Tidal Basin Walk.
Go early. You want to be queueing for the Washington Monument at 7AM, tickets available at 8:30, if you get there any later than 8:30 they'll be gone for the day. You can book in advance, but often it has to be a long way in advance. Also things like Ford Theatre and Holocaust Memorial Museum arrive early and queue, and if you want photos of attractions go early. I got a photo outside the White House of just me at 7:45AM, by 10:00AM it was packed and you couldn't get a good whole body whole house photo without hoards of other people, so go early for memorial photos and tickets.
