Unbeatable location in the train station and next to street cars. Surrounded by restaurants. Small room but efficiently organized. Friendly staff. Great views watching the trains (but not hearing them).

Well set in Hiroshima, Hilton Hiroshima offers 4-star accommodation close to Myoei-ji Temple and Hiroshima City Minami Ward Community Cultural Center. The food, the room (had a 55 inch TV! Unusual for a hotel), the bar (the live jazz was sensational), the gym (the best hotel gym ever)

Set 1.7 km from Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum, Onyado Nono Matsue Natural Hot Spring offers 4-star accommodation in Matsue and has a spa and wellness centre. Great mix of western comfort and Japanese charm. Staff service is at the right level: only here when you need, with so many small but thoughtful attentions. The sunset from the onsen is awesome. The breakfast is a blast.

Attractively set in the Hiroshima City Centre district of Hiroshima, Randor Hotel Hiroshima Prestige is situated 1 km from Chosho-in Temple, 500 metres from Hiroshima Station and 1.2 km from Hiroshima... The reception staff were welcoming and accommodating. Felt like a guest not like a customer. Room was upgraded but we were unable to use the bath or washing machine due to our time constraints. 5minutes to the main station and easy to navigate to the streetcars from the hotel.

Located in Tamano, 21 km from Hashihime Inari Daimyojin Shrine, UNO HOTEL provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace. A lovely, modern hotel with relatively large rooms, every amenity you could want, an excellent restaurant, and a beautiful onsen and restaurant complex next door. Just across the street from the train station and a very short walk catty-corner to the ferry terminals. The staff was terrific, both in the hotel and restaurant, and did everything possible to make us feel like honored guests. An extra touch was free coffee/tea/snacks/ice cream and as much bottled water as we wanted. One of our favorite hotels on our 3-month trip.

A 3-minute stroll from Itsukushima Shrine, Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto boasts an outdoor hot spring bath. It offers luxurious Japanese-style and Western rooms and a free shuttle from Miyajima Pier. Amazing hotel, great location, very nice facilities. Room was good size. Food was excellent too. Staff spoke English. Onsen is small but very pleasant.

Situated in Kurashiki, 800 metres from Shinkeien Garden, 撚る屋 features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar. The property was gorgeous, so well designed with modern touches but a traditional feel. We stayed in both junior suites and the maisonette and all were beautifully designed and decorated. The maisonette was two floors so could be tough for older people. The staff was friendly and helpful and made our group feel so welcome and comfortable. The food was amazing and the chef was lovely, chatting with our group each night and kindly tweaking the menu whenever needed for the picky people in our group. I can see this ryokan becoming very quickly widely recognized for its outstanding quality, design, and service. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Yoruya and I hope to stay here again someday.

HIYASAI -LOGIN Kurashiki- is located in Kurashiki, within 10 km of Mizushima Ryokuchi Fukuda Park and 11 km of Tanematsuyama Park. Location was ideal just near Kurashiki's historical area + surrounded by a lot of traditional and modern restaurants.
