The most wonderful stay at a property that was hands down the most luxurious one we stayed at whilst our two weeks in Japan. Describing the suite and the level of care that has gone into making this ryokan a pampering experience for guests in words would not do it justice. From the private onsen, Aesop products in the bathroom, fully stocked fridge everyday (all complimentary), huge and extra comfortable beds and incredible Japanese breakfast. We loved every second of our stay in Kanazawa and were so glad to add an extra night.

Having a hot open air bath to the sounds of birds and a waterfall… unforgettable. Beautiful view from the room, the facilities are all new and clean, the staff were incredibly sweet and helpful

Boasting a 200-year history, Motoyu Ishiya features classic architecture, an original Noh stage and a garden. This ryokan was the highlight of our trip. The 5-person room offered a large space with closets, terraces, low and high tables, wooden wall ornaments, and painted sliding doors, for a memorable traditional stay. The room included the standard toilet and washroom, except for the shower. The public bath should be used for showering and bathing. Meals were served in a beautiful dining room at the agreed time. Breakfast and dinner included numerous small portions of traditional food. Although it was fish and vegetable-heavy, everything tasted good, and the meal size was more than enough for everyone. During dinner, the staff prepared futon beds in the room. They were very comfortable and we had a great sleep. However, futons are harder than mattresses and encourage sleeping on your back. The onsen was the main attraction. There were the inside and the outside hot baths, and the cold bath. The water is very dark and not transparent. It's supposed to have a very high pH and be good for skin. I believe this onsen offers great value for a reasonable price, probably because its location is not particularly famous.

Matsusaki is a wonderful traditional ryokan experience in Japan. Everything, from the amazing hospitality (and I was really blown away by the service/hospitality) to the carefully curated and beautifully presented meals, to the size and comfort of the rooms, was perfect. Our room had a dining room overlooking the garden, a main living/sleeping area, a separate bathroom and then a spa bathroom with an open air private onsen pool on the garden. Dinner service was a dream- we were provided a private dining room (although I saw some guests who requested dinner in their room) and our hostess/nakai-san brought each course and explained them to us. Overall there were thirteen courses of traditional Japanese foods served. The proprietress also stopped in several times to say hello and assist if needed, which was lovely. I didnt use all of the public onsens because we had our private bath in the room, but the ones I did use were lovely and quite an experience for me as a foreigner. There is also a train station shuttle which is prompt and very easy to use, which eased some of our worry. Overall, I had a wonderful stay and wished that I had booked to stay for more time. I would stay at Matsusaki again!

The most beautiful accommodation I’ve ever stayed in anywhere ! Superb service and they were all so kind, warm and thoughtful. Staying here resetted my nervous system. The onsen is a luxury to experience in front of the beautiful scenaries of the mountains and river. Walking out in the morning seeing chicken will melt your heart

Araya Totoan ligger i Kaga, 32 km från Eihei-ji tempel, och erbjuder boende med en terrass, gratis privat parkering, en restaurang och massagebehandlingar. A truly stunning, historical and special stay. The owner and team were so wonderful and looked after us beautifully. The suite itself was divine. Soaking in a cedar tub while looking at the forest floor is something we’ll never forget. The private dining room makes your stay feel even more exclusive. The food was truly out of this world. Our baby was catered for beautifully. We even had a large Moses basket in the dining room for her to rest. The area itself is very cool- there was an arts and crafts fair there when we stayed. There is a beautiful forest walk too. Can’t fault the stay and can’t wait to return one day.

Staff treated us like royalty. Food was top notch. Cute, walkable little mountain village with relocated Edo houses and nature trails. Amazing experience!

Kanazawa Hyakurakusou ligger i Kanazawa, 14 km från Kanazawa slott, och erbjuder boende med en trädgård, gratis privat parkering, en gemensam lounge och en terrass. I was a bit nervous about staying since my Japanese isn't super great, but they had English speaking staff who helped us whenever it was needed. So there aren't any language barriers for English speakers. Wonderful place and service is great if you know what you're getting into.
