Situated along Tanohara River and surrounded by tranquil nature in Kurokawa Onsen hot spring area, Oku no Yu Ryokan offers charming Japanese-style accommodation and various hot spring baths. The location is fantastic for onsen lovers! The hotel messaged us asking for food restrictions so we could enjoy our kaiseki experience much better

Featuring a spa bath, Shikinosato Hanamura is located in Minamioguni. This ryokan provides free private parking and a 24-hour front desk. Room was very spacious. There were 3 heaters in the room, so definately warm enough to anyone's liking if you needed. Room onsen was nice. Food was in a private dining room for dinner and breakfast. There was a very nice lounge to relax in as well. There is a public cave onsen that was quite special. In winter, roads may have snow and need to be wary if driving in.

Set in Minamioguni in the Kumamoto region, Ryokan Yamanoyu offers accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. The staff were super accommodating and friendly. The Onsen were amazing and many to chose from. If you arrive by bus it’s good to contact for a pick up as it’s a bit of a distance from kurokawa village.

Built in 1722, Okyakuya is situated in the historical district of Kurokawa Onsen district. Located only 100 metres from Kurokawa Onsen, Free WiFi is provided and private parking is available on site. The staff was very attentive and took time to explain the ryokans layout as well as show us where everything is. The food was delicious and arranged beautifully. The portion size was just right. There are multiple baths which depending on the time switch between mens and womens baths. Soaking after a meal or right after waking up really heals your body and mind.

Boasting an open-air bath, garden and views of mountain, Hanare no Yado Hanagokoro is set in Minamioguni, 40 km from Mount Aso. Love the cabin, amenities, food, location, vibe, onsen!!

Kurokawa Onsen Yama no Yado Shinmeikan features 5 hot-spring baths, including a 30-metre long cave bath. Location. Stunning view and atmosphere. Sympathy from the staff. Kudos for Shujan for his kindness and informative interaction. Amazing food experience.

Located in the centre of Kurokawa Onsen, Oyado Noshiyu offers outdoor and indoor hot-spring baths, Japanese-style accommodations and a traditional teahouse. What's not to like? From the moment we entered the parking we were treated like VIPs. We're not used to that! The room with its own onsen was really spacious and quiet. The property is beautifully landscaped. We didn't try the public indoor onsen, but the outside ones were lovely. Meals were beautiful and tasty and the servers were so kind. We also got an onsen pass and tried some other onsen in the town the following day - highly recommend but not needed with all the facilities here. It was a really nice treat to stay here.

Located in Minami Aso in the Kumamoto Region, 10 km from Naka-dake, Hotel Yumeshizuku boasts a hot spring bath and sauna. Each room at this hotel is air conditioned and features a flat-screen TV. Worth the trip, and you can communicate in English.

Situated in the centre of the Kurokawa Onsen Area and boasting a total of 8 indoor/outdoor hot spring baths, Nanjoen offers traditional Japanese-style accommodation with tatami (woven-straw) flooring... The staffs were always available, smiling and ready to help when required. We were served like king during our stay there. We highly recommend this properly after having an enjoyable and pleasant stay at this ryokan.

Boasting various indoor and open-air hot spring baths, Fumoto Ryokan offers traditional Japanese-style accommodation with a historic charm. It is surrounded by serene greenery next to a river. Our stay at Fumoto Ryokan was absolutely incredible. The staff did a fantastic job throughout our stay and making sure every detail of the trip was just perfect. Our room had a wonderful view of the adjacent river and was so comfortable and spacious - a nice change of pace after traveling Japans big cities. Even as a very tall guy, they provided me with an appropriate Yukuta and I could enjoy the onsen experience in full. The baths themselves are amazing - both the shared outdoor one and the private bath rooms. There are plenty of the latter, so if you prefer your privacy you‘ll have plenty of options, some of them even with outdoor views. Then there is the food. The courses are absolutely delicious and so plentiful, that we found ourselves struggling to finish all of it sometimes. The quality of the dishes and the presentation is so high, the (not cheap) room price seems very reasonable in hindsight. To sum it up: this was a 10/10 experience and we can’t wait to come back someday.
