Situated along Tanohara River and surrounded by tranquil nature in Kurokawa Onsen hot spring area, Oku no Yu Ryokan offers charming Japanese-style accommodation and various hot spring baths. The onsens were amazing and the best in the town. Food exceeded my expectations conpletely and were worth the price we paid per night alone.

Featuring a spa bath, Shikinosato Hanamura is located in Minamioguni. This ryokan provides free private parking and a 24-hour front desk. Room was very spacious. There were 3 heaters in the room, so definately warm enough to anyone's liking if you needed. Room onsen was nice. Food was in a private dining room for dinner and breakfast. There was a very nice lounge to relax in as well. There is a public cave onsen that was quite special. In winter, roads may have snow and need to be wary if driving in.

Set in Minamioguni in the Kumamoto region, Ryokan Yamanoyu offers accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. Everything about this ryokan is perfect. They have free pick up and drop off. Their ryokan is very well maintained. The service team is excellent. The location is perfect. The food was extremely good. They even have a really nice private onsen.

Built in 1722, Okyakuya is situated in the historical district of Kurokawa Onsen district. Located only 100 metres from Kurokawa Onsen, Free WiFi is provided and private parking is available on site. One of the best experience in a ryokan of my life. The stay is not expensive at all if we consider all the services they provide. If you are planning to stay a night in kurokawa onsen i would really recommend this ryokan, authentic and traditional experience. The staff is very kind and always ready to help, they even took me to the bus station the day after! The dinner and breakfast experience are a must! Staff will explain every dish in details and will guide you in a real culinary experience with fresh local flavour! Also amazing indoor and outdoor onsen!

Boasting an open-air bath, garden and views of mountain, Hanare no Yado Hanagokoro is set in Minamioguni, 40 km from Mount Aso. This place is a hidden treasure. Great tranquil place to escape crazy Japanese cities. We had wonderful time in Japan nature

Kurokawa Onsen Yama no Yado Shinmeikan features 5 hot-spring baths, including a 30-metre long cave bath. The staff was extremely helpful, parking our car for us and helping us navigate. The cave onsen was stunning, as the cave was much larger than I expected and very interesting, and the water was very relaxing. The food was also incredible!

Located in the centre of Kurokawa Onsen, Oyado Noshiyu offers outdoor and indoor hot-spring baths, Japanese-style accommodations and a traditional teahouse. Everything was more tan perfect. We had an amazing stay here. Staff was extremely friendly, food was fantastic, breakfast was so relaxing atmosphere. The Onsens were soo relaxing. It was like you just stay in a forest with nothing else around you. Relly recommend to everyone who wants to enjoy a Ryokan Onsen at its best

Located in Minami Aso in the Kumamoto Region, 10 km from Naka-dake, Hotel Yumeshizuku boasts a hot spring bath and sauna. Each room at this hotel is air conditioned and features a flat-screen TV. Worth the trip, and you can communicate in English.

Situated in the centre of the Kurokawa Onsen Area and boasting a total of 8 indoor/outdoor hot spring baths, Nanjoen offers traditional Japanese-style accommodation with tatami (woven-straw) flooring... Central location, quick walk away from the bus stop, shops and the river. Nice amenities, friendly staff and delicious kiseki dinners.

Boasting various indoor and open-air hot spring baths, Fumoto Ryokan offers traditional Japanese-style accommodation with a historic charm. It is surrounded by serene greenery next to a river. Our stay at Fumoto Ryokan was absolutely incredible. The staff did a fantastic job throughout our stay and making sure every detail of the trip was just perfect. Our room had a wonderful view of the adjacent river and was so comfortable and spacious - a nice change of pace after traveling Japans big cities. Even as a very tall guy, they provided me with an appropriate Yukuta and I could enjoy the onsen experience in full. The baths themselves are amazing - both the shared outdoor one and the private bath rooms. There are plenty of the latter, so if you prefer your privacy you‘ll have plenty of options, some of them even with outdoor views. Then there is the food. The courses are absolutely delicious and so plentiful, that we found ourselves struggling to finish all of it sometimes. The quality of the dishes and the presentation is so high, the (not cheap) room price seems very reasonable in hindsight. To sum it up: this was a 10/10 experience and we can’t wait to come back someday.
