Lovely location. Exceptionally clean. Equipped with everything you could need for a perfect stay - even little touches like a bottle of wine, fruit juice and sweets which made the stay extra special. Extremely comfortable - one of the best night’s sleep I have had in ages. Charming and helpful hosts. Access to a secure garden which was wonderful for our dog. Really good if you are travelling with kids too - the hosts have thought of everything you could need to make it a home from home.

We were looking for accomodation in the area south of Seurre on a Eurovelo 6 cycle trip and chanced upon “Jan’s Place” in Ecuelles and were so glad we did. Our room was spacious, artfully decorated with a very comfortable bed. Pre-dinner drinks siting by the Saone river in a beautiful garden set the tone for dinner which Jan prepared. How lovely to have such a quality meal, so well presented at a patio table looking out at all the roses and irises. Prosciutto and perfectly ripe melon was accompanied by a glass of cold gazpacho and followed up by a whole slow-cooked “Bresse” chicken, fresh green beans and potatoes au gratin. Raspberries and a pistachio cream dessert to finish. One of the nicest and best meals we have enjoyed in our six weeks in France. Breakfast was similarly good. Jan is a most interesting and charming man, with a welcoming home, wonderful library and intriguing historical objects d’art etc. Although off the EV6 route, it is on the other side of the Saone River but easily accessed along low-traffic D roads. Bike storage is under a shelter in the garden. Jan’s Place is an excellent choice for a stay on a EV6 cycle trip and well worth the slight diversion. Highly Recommended, wish we could have stayed longer.
