Situated in Tuk Tuk, Matraville Home Stay Tuk Tuk Lake Toba Samosir features accommodation with seating area. This property offers access to a terrace and free private parking. The guest house has family rooms. Our three-night stay at Matraville Homestay was a very welcome change-of-pace after jungle treks and volcano hikes in Bukit Lawang and Berestagi. Our unit was VERY large (it would have easily suited a family of four) and well-appointed with a TV, fridge, sink and kettle for use. It was also spread over two levels, with the downstairs serving as the entrance/living room area/kitchenette, and the bedroom and bathroom/separate shower area upstairs. BONUS(ES): the unit entrance featured a little patio with a table and chair where you could have an early-morning coffee or tea while facing the sunrise; the upstairs level also provided a small balcony area to take in the morning sun or evening dusk. While the room we chose was across the street from the water (a 90-second walk at most, down a couple of shallow flights of steps, and therefore didn’t provide a direct waterfront view), there are two rooms available in another portion of the property that face the water and are just steps from it. Our excellent Host, Dimmer, picked us up from the Tuk Tuk ferry landing (and can also drop you off when you depart) and will provide you with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable, including tips on places to eat or have coffee nearby and suggestions for what to do/see on Samosir Island. He will also provide scooters for daily/multi-day use for very reasonable rates.

We spent two nights in the lodge and we did the 2D1N trek with our amazing guides Pika, Tenjong and Imuh. We will be forever grateful to them for taking such good care of us, for teaching us so much about the jungle and the animals, and for being so kind. I definitely recommend the experience. We were able to spot over 15 orangutans, many monkeys, including the Thomas leaf monkey and some gibbons, as well as hornbills (similar to toucans). The lodge is amazing, with a wonderful view of the nature surrounding this area. They provided us with transport service (shared or private) from Medan airport for a very good price. Breakfast is good as well as the dinner, all of it at great prices. The atmosphere is very calm and welcoming. Many thanks for such an unforgettable experience!!!
