Staying at the School House felt like summer camp meets a cozy farm visit with my cousins, with a sprinkle of grade school nostalgia. The care and creativity they pour into every detail made us feel less like guests and more like family. It was sparkling clean, delightfully charming, and filled with kindness you can’t quite put into words. My only regret? We didn’t stay longer. So until we return, go enjoy it for me and my son—we’re already missing it.

I loved the design of the room. Very nice onsen with 3 pools, 2 of them on the roof, in open space. 3 minutes from the train station. Supermarkets and restaurants nearby.

Everything is just less than 5 mins walk - Train/Bus Station, Family Mart, Restaurants. The pantry is amazing, they serve free coffee all day and has proper place for us to eat our take outs.

The hotel’s convenient location near the station made travel easy, the breakfast was both presentable and delicious, the room was quiet with a very comfortable bed, and the public bath was impressively clean.”

Residence Hotel Takayama Station is situated conveniently in the centre of Takayama, and offers a fitness centre, free WiFi and a terrace. This 4-star hotel offers luggage storage space. Great hotel! The room was very spacious and fully equipped with everything I needed: two beds, fridge, kitchen, microwave, and even a washer/dryer. The location is perfect, just a 3-minute walk from the station. Everything was perfect!

600 metres from Shirakawago, Shirakawago Guest House Kei is set in Shirakawa and offers rooms with free WiFi. All rooms feature a kitchen and a shared bathroom. A good and economic overnight stop in Shirakawa-go, big public area to relax, talk and prepare food. The private rooms were comfortable and quiet. The host was gracious, very friendly, extremely helpful and talkative! He offers free rides to and from Shirakawa-go bus terminal at set times and seems a very nice and genuine person!

Effective October 1, 2025, a lodging tax will be introduced by ordinance of Takayama City. In addition to the room charge, 100 yen per person per day will be charged. Spacious! Which is hard to find for dormitories. And exceptionally clean. Really appreciated the quiet ambience and comfortable lounge, with complimentary tea and drip coffee. Lots of manga and books to browse through, along with a thorough sightseeing and food map. Also a very cute variety of Ghibli decorations and memorabilia in the lounge area. Location is close to Takayama Eki but in the snow it was a bit hard to go to and from with a wheel suitcase. Any other weather and it is completely walkable.
